Baby Week Calderdale is back from 14–20 November, celebrating babies, young children and families across the borough! 💚

This year's theme is Chat, Play, Read With Me, celebrating the little moments that make a big difference — from chatting and singing to playing together and sharing stories.

With a range of activities, groups and events taking place across Calderdale, there's lots for families to discover. We're also celebrating the National Year of Reading and the joy of sharing stories from the very beginning. 📖

🎉 Join us at Mixenden Activity Centre - MAC, for the FINAL MIXY Youth Bash! 🎉

Next week marks our 30th MIXY Youth Bash session, and what a lot of fun, friendships and memories we’ve shared!

MIXY Youth Bash has provided a welcoming space for young people to meet, build friendships, enjoy activities and channel their energy positively, right here in their community.

Across our sessions, 188 young people signed up, with 1,544 attendances - and 93% of registrations came from the Mixenden (HX2) postcode.

To all the young people and families who have been part of this event, thank you for helping make it special. ❤️

🍵 Join us for our FINAL MAC Community Kitchen! ❤️

Next week marks our 52nd Community Kitchen since reopening at Mixenden Activity Centre - MAC - the equivalent of a whole year of weekly get-togethers! 🥰

Together, in association with our wonderful Staying Well Calderdale team, we have served over 2,100 free meals, with 202 people registered and 80% of attendees from Mixenden and North Halifax.

Celebrating what we’ve achieved together at MAC 🥳

During NHP’s time managing Mixenden Activity Centre - MAC, MAC has been about so much more than a building or a programme of activities. It has been a welcoming, local space where people of all ages can meet others, make friends and feel part of their community.

From activities, events, the Bike Co-op and community meals to youth clubs, partnerships and opportunities to access support, MAC has brought people together in many different ways.

It has helped people build friendships and feel less isolated, given young people positive things to do close to home, and provided a shared space where organisations could connect with residents and offer help and support.

Here are just two examples of what this has meant in practice, since reopening in August 2025:
🎉 MIXY Youth Bash: 1,544 attendances across 28 sessions, with 188 young people signed up. 93% of registrations were from the Mixenden (HX2) postcode.
🍲 Community Kitchen: 2,088 free meals served across 50 sessions, with 202 people registered. 80% of attendees were from Mixenden and North Halifax.

Behind these figures are positive friendships, experiences and connections that really matter - all happening in a community space close to home for many local people.

We’re incredibly proud of what our staff, volunteers, partners and the community have helped create at MAC. Thank you to everyone who has been part of it.

Following the disappointing news that the proposed transfer of Mixenden Activity Centre - MAC to North Halifax Partnership (NHP) will not proceed, all services operating at the MAC will come to an end on Friday 23rd October 2026, when the centre will close its doors.

We need to return the keys to the building by Friday 20th November. Sadly, the time required to relocate staff and services, move equipment and clear the premises, means we must bring activities to a close in time for that deadline.

NHP are working closely with our valued partners to help groups and services explore alternative venues, so that local people of all ages can continue to access the activities and support they have grown to rely on.

At present, no plans for the centre's future have been communicated to us.

We're deeply saddened by this outcome, but immensely proud of what has been achieved at the MAC - the friendships, shared meals, activities, support, partnerships and sense of belonging that made it much more than a building.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of MAC and helped make it such a special place for the community.

NHP's commitment to Mixenden will continue by delivering our valued family and community services in the area, working towards our vision of a better future for all generations.

We’re very sad to share that North Halifax Partnership’s time managing Mixenden Activity Centre - MAC will come to an end in the coming weeks.

NHP put forward a thorough business case for MAC through the Community Asset Transfer (CAT) process. We have now been informed a political decision has been made not to proceed with the proposed transfer to NHP.

We’re disappointed by this decision, but immensely proud of what has been achieved.

MAC has never just been about the activities. It has been about the people who walk through the door - the friendships made, familiar faces, shared meals, conversations, laughter and having somewhere to belong.

It has provided local groups with a space to meet, build partnerships and develop new opportunities, while giving young people positive things to do and get involved in.

We’ll work closely with regular users over the coming weeks to help ensure no one is left without the connections and activities they rely on.
