🧠 Beyond the King’s Speech: What Children Affected by Domestic Abuse Still Need

Following the King’s Speech, once again entered national conversation. But for many children affected by domestic abuse, the reality remains the same:

Too many are still waiting too long for support.

We believe children exposed to domestic abuse are victims in their own right and deserve safe, trauma-informed spaces where they can heal, rebuild confidence and rediscover their voice.

Our latest blog explores:
💛 Why domestic abuse must be recognised as a public health issue
💛 The lasting impact trauma has on children’s development
💛 What children consistently tell us they need most
💛 Why early intervention and specialist support matter

Because children deserve more than crisis responses once harm has already taken hold.

🎉 Let’s Celebrate EdShift Together 🎉

We’re marking a powerful milestone at EdShift.

Not only did we turn three this May, but we’re also celebrating something just as important - securing another three years of funding from The National Lottery, totalling £399,999.99

In a time where funding is harder than ever to secure, this is something we don’t take lightly. It means stability, growth, and most importantly it means we can continue showing up for the children, young people, and families who need us most.

💛 For the past three years, you’ve helped us build something special.
💛 For the next three years, we’ll keep building a community of belonging and continue strengthening how we support children and young people affected by domestic abuse.

We remain committed to being:
✨ A safe and welcoming space
✨ A place of connection and support
✨ A beacon of hope for children, young people, and families
✨ A community working to reduce isolation and strengthen belonging

So now… it’s time to celebrate 🎊

📅 On Friday 26th June, from 10:30am – 2:30pm, our doors will be open.

We’re inviting our funders, partners, families, stakeholders, businesses, and local residents to come together with us to reflect on what we’ve achieved, look ahead to what’s to come, and explore how you can be part of the next chapter.

On the day:
🍽️ Buffet
🎨 Arts & crafts for children
💬 Conversations about the future
🎉 A real sense of celebration and community spirit

Thank you for standing with us over the last three years and for walking alongside us into the next.

You can book your place by visiting our events page - https://edshift.co.uk/events/

We can’t wait to see you there

💛 Impact Friday 💛

“It is wonderful to watch them now do day-to-day tasks without the need of me. I know now my child will continue to grow in confidence.”

This feedback from a parent reminds us why early, trauma-informed support matters.

Children affected by domestic abuse are often carrying fear, anxiety and experiences far beyond what any child should have to navigate alone. Through safe relationships, creative therapeutic support and spaces where children feel heard, healing can begin.

Every child’s journey looks different, but moments like this show the impact of giving children the right support at the right time.

Thank you to the parent who trusted us to walk alongside their family. 🫶

Yesterday was one of those moments that reminded us exactly why community matters. 💛

A huge thank you to the incredible team from Covèa Insurance, who came to EdShift as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility volunteering programme and completely blew us away with their kindness, energy, and willingness to get stuck in.

A team of 22 volunteers spent the day transforming our spaces for children and young people affected by domestic abuse, and the impact they made was genuinely incredible.

They refreshed and repainted walls in our Sunshine Studio and reception area, helping us create spaces that feel warm, welcoming, and safe for the families who walk through our doors every day.

Outside, the team took on one of the dirtiest jobs imaginable, clearing out our little basement outdoor area to help us begin creating a beautiful wellbeing garden for children.

This space will become a small “secret garden” connected to our Secret Garden Therapy Room, where children can plant seeds, grow flowers, explore nature, and simply breathe.

They planted flowers, created hanging baskets, prepared planters for the new garden space, built between 50–100 BraveBoxes for children and young people, and even made bracelets filled with positive affirmations and encouragement.

But more than anything, the day was about connection.

It was about raising awareness of child victim-survivors of domestic abuse.

It was about people coming together to give back.
We are so proud, and so deeply grateful to every single member of the Covéa team. Your kindness, hard work, and genuine passion for helping others did not go unnoticed.

You are an absolute credit to Calderdale and Halifax.

Thank you for standing with us. 💛

🌈 Dare to Wear Brave Day – Calderdale Schools 🌈

On Wednesday 17th June, we’re inviting schools across Calderdale to take part in something simple but powerful…

💥 A non-uniform day celebrating the everyday bravery of our children and young people
💥 A chance to raise vital funds for our BraveBox programme
👕 Children can come dressed as whatever makes them feel BRAVE -
their favourite superhero, football legend, singer… or simply their boldest, brightest self

💛 Suggested donation: £1 per child

Every penny raised helps us continue providing BraveBoxes - a crucial resource that has been increasing children’s safety for over 3 years.

Last year, we distributed over 350 boxes. At £12.50 each, that’s £4,375 funded by EdShift.

We’re proud to do this, but we can’t continue funding it alone, and without support, we will soon run out of BraveBoxes.

✨ Schools also have the option to run a simple Power Brick activity, where children create a message about their own bravery and build these into a Power Tower Collage as a class.

WE DID IT!!! 💛

We are incredibly proud to announce that EdShift has secured £399,999.99 from The National Lottery Community Fund to support our work over the next three years.

This funding is transformational for our organisation and, most importantly, for the children and young people affected by domestic abuse who rely on our services.

Because of this investment, EdShift will be able to:

✨ Increase our therapeutic capacity
✨ Reduce waiting times for support
✨ Reach more vulnerable children and young people
✨ Strengthen trauma-informed services across our community
✨ Continue creating safe spaces where children feel seen, heard and supported

Every day, we work alongside children whose lives have been shaped by domestic abuse. Too many are left waiting too long for specialist support. This funding means more children will be able to access help earlier, process trauma safely and begin rebuilding confidence, connection and hope.

We want to say a huge thank you to The National Lottery Community Fund and to every single person who has supported EdShift’s journey so far.

We believe every child deserves to be seen, heard and supported.
And today, we take a major step forward in making that possible. 💛
