🎉 Happy 1st Birthday to Youth in Mind (YIM)! 🎉

Today, we celebrate one year of supporting children, young people, and families across the Bradford and Craven districts through our Youth in Mind (YIM) project.

Over the past 12 months, we have had the privilege of walking alongside incredible young people as they have faced challenges, built resilience, achieved personal goals, and developed new ways to manage and regulate their emotional wellbeing.

In our first year:
✨ 2,616 therapeutic and support sessions attended
✨ 80.6% of young people showed reliable improvements in their goals by the end of support

These outcomes reflect the dedication of our team and, most importantly, the courage, commitment, and determination of the young people and families we work alongside every day.

💙 "Working at YIM has been an absolute privilege. I have been fortunate to be part of a compassionate and dedicated team whose commitment to hearing, empowering, and advocating for young people is truly inspiring. The young people we work with are extraordinary. Their resilience, courage, and ability to overcome challenges never cease to amaze me. It has been an honour to be alongside them in their journey, support them, and witness their growth and achievements." – Carly

💙 "It has been very rewarding and a privilege to see young people achieve their set goals and to help them find ways to regulate their emotional wellbeing. The 12-session model is unheard of in the mental health space, so we are truly given the opportunity to make a lasting difference." – Salma

💙 "I have had the privilege of working with many families as an SFP as part of Invictus Wellbeing within the YIM therapeutic and counselling pathway supported under MIND. Many families have found support, help, and new ways of being with one another because of this free service. It’s a privilege to be part of the team and support children, young people, and their families." – Esther

Over the last year, YIM has become a trusted source of support for young people and families across Bradford and Craven, providing a safe space to be heard, understood, and empowered. We are incredibly proud of the positive impact this service has had and grateful to every young person, parent, carer, partner organisation, and team member who has been part of the journey.

Together, we're building brighter futures for children, young people, and families across Bradford and Craven.

Here's to another year of listening, empowering, supporting, and helping young people thrive. 🌟

We’re proud to share two insightful articles written by our colleague Nicola Hanson, Children and Young People’s Wellbeing Practitioner for Invictus, supported by BBC Children in Need. 💙

In “Talking Replaced by Digital Deluge”, Nicola reflects on how digital devices are changing the way we connect, and why meaningful conversations matter now more than ever.

In “Worries – The Elephant in the Room”, she explores how young people experience anxiety and why simply saying “don’t worry” often isn’t enough. Using a powerful elephant analogy, Nicola highlights the importance of listening, understanding, and creating safe spaces for young people to talk openly about their feelings.

These articles offer valuable insight into the emotional wellbeing of children and young people in today’s world and remind us all of the power of connection and conversation.

Trigger Warning: Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE)

Our colleagues recently attended a very powerful Child Sexual Exploitation training session delivered by Jeremy Indika. Using his own lived experience, Jeremy spoke openly and honestly about the realities of child sexual abuse and exploitation, helping us to better understand what exploitation can look like in real life, why it so often goes unseen, and what it takes for a child to feel safe enough to speak out.

At Invictus, we take our responsibility to protect children and young people extremely seriously, and opportunities like this are vital in strengthening our awareness, understanding, and safeguarding practice.

A huge thank you to Jeremy for delivering such an impactful and thought-provoking session and for sharing his story so courageously.

Some of the feedback from our colleagues included:

“Your story, your passion about having these conversations and your ability to create a safe space to have them is your gift.”

“One of the best training sessions I’ve had. It has really stayed with me and I’m hoping to help make the change that you are doing with your work.”

“What you created today will stay with me and I am incredibly grateful for the time you gave us.”

“I thank you from the bottom of my heart for providing us with a sense of hope for something that oftentimes feels hopeless.”

We have attached Jeremy’s website for anyone who would like to learn more about his work, and we would strongly recommend that any organisation or professional working with children and young people consider reaching out to him.
