Fridges of Mercy - The Mosque Community Fridge Network

Across the U.K., communities are opening their hearts - and their fridges - to make sure no one is left behind. Supported by local Mosques and powered by volunteers, each fridge offers free food to anyone who needs it. No barriers. No judgement. No questions asked.

This initiative is inspired by timeless guidance: “O Mankind, spread peace and feed people. These words from the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) reflect a universal truth - kindness has no borders.

Across the U.K., this growing network is stopping tonnes of food from going to waste and helping thousands of families avoid going to bed hungry. Every fridge is a step towards a more compassionate, more connected society.

Many thanks to Nat and everyone at Halifax Homeless and community kitchen - they’ve supported the community for many years and have been a lifeline for many. The donation will go towards the community fridge, in ensuring we remain open 365-days-a-year, feeding anyone and everyone, no questions asked.

🤍💫💌 A Heartfelt Thank You 💌💫🤍

We are so incredibly grateful that over the festive period we received some wonderfully kind and generous financial donations to support our outreach going into the new year. With the announcement of Nat stepping down, we are in the process of handing everything over, including the funds we received.

Although HHCK is not a registered charity, when handling charitable funds we have a duty to pass these on to like-for-like services, in line with Charity Commission guidance. Before stepping down, we took the time to speak with the people we support on Sundays to understand which services they rely on most during the week for ongoing help.

We are pleased to announce that all remaining funds in our account have now been evenly shared between:

Light Group Halifax
Happydays UK
Halifax Community Fridge

Each organisation has received £830 to support their ongoing work in the community.

These incredible organisations continue to provide vital support across Calderdale, and we are grateful to be able to contribute to their work on behalf of our community.
A huge thank you again to everyone whose generosity made this possible. 💫💌🤍

Jesus is one of the most beloved Prophets in the Islamic faith. He is the penultimate Prophet and Messenger of God. He was sent with the Gospel, and lived in the regions near Bethlehem and Jerusalem. Jesus embodied peace and at this time of the year we ask for peace in the region he was born into.

Muslims love Jesus dearly, and he is amongst the five greatest Prophets to have been sent by God.

The Qur’an, the holy book for Muslims, dedicates a full chapter to Mary, the mother of Jesus. The 19th chapter of the Qur’an is named after her. Jesus was born with no father. Mary, otherwise known as Maryam, is considered amongst the greatest and most-righteous of women, in the Islamic faith.

The Qur’an attributes many miracles to Jesus. He is mentioned 25 times in the Qur’an. He would speak from the cradle, create birds from clay, heal the blind and the l***r, and bring the dead back to life. All of this, with the permission of God. We believe that Jesus was raised by God to the heavens, and he will descend once more for his second coming.

Islam is a monotheistic religion; Muslims believe that God is nothing like the creation. He has no offspring, neither is he born from anything. He is One and independent of the creation, whilst the creation is in need of Him.

Helping one's neighbours, showing mercy to others in the community and looking after one another, are all traits we have learned from the life of Jesus.

Know that Muslims love Jesus dearly. Peace and blessings be upon him.

Here’s a reminder for anyone who needs it: we are open 365-days-a-year and are here for you. We’ve never closed a day since we opened in August 2020. If you need food and drink, you do not need to go to sleep hungry in Calderdale. We do not charge a penny, and no questions are ever asked.

The Halifax Community Fridge is open daily from 11am-12.30pm.

Please share so no one has to go to sleep hungry over the holiday period.

Thank you to everyone at the North Halifax Grammar School for their continued support towards the community fridge. Catherine was on hand earlier today to drop off donations on behalf of the Sixth Form Charity Committee who worked tirelessly to gather donations of food to help fill the community fridge over the winter period.

We’ve seen firsthand the amazing work that Headteacher Mr Desmond Deehan is doing at the school, and have been working alongside the schools senior management team to build greater approaches for collaboration.
