There's only two days left to catch our current exhibition, the extremely popular "Hidden Project: History From Below" by photographer Red Saunders which shines photographic light on great moments in the long struggle of working people for democracy and social justice. Each scene is carefully planned and lit, using local community enactors. To create these amazing images, Saunders has brought together the talents of a wide range of professionals and craftspeople, alongside an enthusiastic cast of volunteers who share his vision.

Halesworth Vinyl Collective's next meeting is on Thursday 24th July at 7pm when Beach Boys afficionado Steve Garlick presents "Teenage Symphonies to God" - a deep dive into the soundtrack of the California myth and the darkness that lurks beneath it to mark Brian Wilson's recent death. When the Beach Boys appeared, many wrote them off as little more than a novelty act, cashing in on California’s teenage surf and hot rod culture, but leader Brian Wilson had musical ambitions far beyond a bubblegum soundtrack to a life of waves, cars and girls. Wilson drew on his love of doo-wop and Phil Spector’s legendary ‘Wall of Sound’ to produce increasingly sophisticated records that charted his troubled emotional life through an era of seismic shifts in popular culture. He eventually withdrew from live performance to focus on perfecting his astonishing and ever more baroque studio mastery.

Our Story

The Cut was officially opened by the late Sir Alan Bates in October 2003 although a lot was happening before then both behind the scenes and on an improvised stage. We now have a full programme of activities. A weekly cinema, theatre, music, regular art exhibitions and an educational programme. Our dance studio with sprung floor offers a great space for a variety of classes, from dance to yoga. The Cut Cafe and galleries are open from Tuesday - Saturday from 10 - 4pm. The Cafe serves homemade pastries and cakes, and offers lunch between 12-2pm. Since the beginning of the century the wonderful old Maltings has been restored thanks to public funding but running costs are not subsidised in any way so we survive on our own resources. Our 15 business units provide a vital monthy income stream and thanks to our group of dedicated volunteers and local support we are able to thrive in the lovely market town of Halesworth.
