Kabubbu Ebola update
Firstly, we want to say an enormous, heart-felt and emotional thank you for your gifts. We have been truly overwhelmed at your kindness and caring. Thank you.
The region remains on alert, possibly forup to 6 minths. You have provided funds to cover initial emergency needs and two months temporary staffing requirement allowing us to start planning for the longer term.
PPE masks, gloves, aprons, boots, disinfectants, sanitising gels, soaps boots, safe disposal and temperature guns were ordered immediately, and most have now arrived in Kabubbu. This establishes a first line of defense - keeping medical staff and patients safe allowing the Health Centre to continue serving the community in safety.
We will have images to share shortly. The Ugandan government prohibits the publication of information from within Uganda.
Please pray that people would continue to trust in Kabubbu Health Centre and come there for treatment, especially expectant mothers.
Pray that the people of Kabubbu adopt practices the Health Centre are training them in.
Other infection control measures are being rolled out across the community with much still to do, The response of the KDP and Health Centre is monitored by the Ugandan Department of Health and the regional response team.
The Health Centre is not government-run. They have no obligation to provide extra funding, so to know that the staff are now safe and have the ability to follow the safety procedures fully is an immense blessing. The Health Centre cannot test for Ebola so referrals must go to Kampala.
The situation is far from over as the cases of Ebola both in Uganda and the neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo are sadly continuing to grow. Uganda has confirmed 20 cases and 2 deaths, however DRC has confirmed 1307 cases and 377 deaths (as of 28th June 2026. Please note: Ugandan figures usually list cases as appearing in Kampala. This is because suspected patients are moved there and then confirmed, rather than being listed under their area of origin.
These figures are conservative, as only confirmed cases are published, so the true number is likely to be higher. The epicentre of the DRC outbreak borders Western Uganda. There is concern people are fleeing DRC into Uganda, unknowing are already infected.
Please pray a calm response as the war in DRC hampers relief.
The group of seven nurses at the Kabubbu Health Centre who had been exposed to an infected patient were evacuated to Kampala by the Ministry of Health for 21 days of quarantine. We are relieved to report that none of them were found to have contracted Ebola, and they have now been returned home. The nurses have been given two weeks holiday to recover from the trauma which has affected them greatly. We thank God they are clear and can recover from the ordeal. The further reported case has also reported negative after quarantine.
The Boda Boda taxi driver who transported the original case and was quarantined with the nurses has also been cleared. A further suspected case the following week transferred from a near by clinic to Kabubbu Health Centre and then on to Kampala subsequently tested negative for Ebola.
