Medi Tech Trust launches its 2026 Community Initiative
We intend to donate Lifting Chairs to NHS First Responder groups throughout East Sussex, Brighton and Hove. This is a major project which will be ongoing until all areas have their own lifting chairs. We have already earmarked some funds for the first ten chairs and hope to secure more funds to buy more. We are appealing to businesses, clubs, fraternal societies and the public to consider donating for this much needed equipment.
The first Lifting Chairs will be given to First Responder groups in East Sussex at a presentation in early July.
Although some First Responder groups may have access to a lifting chair, this could be with an off-duty team member living miles away. If an elderly or frail person suffers a fall and is unable to get up the first responder is reliant on the ambulance service for help lifting the patient and may have to wait for hours until an ambulance crew can attend.
Being in an immobile position for a long time may lead to a patient needing hospital treatment, which might be prevented if they could be safely moved. A manual mobile lifting chair, costing around £2,000 is a safe solution as one First Responder can operate it.
The chair can gently lift a fallen person up to a comfortable sitting position in a few minutes. The patient is stabilised with a seat belt and headrest so there is no neck strain during the lift. The chair is operated with no strain on the First Responder. The lifting process is at the pace the Responder can manage and control.
This is such an important appeal as apart from helping the patient, it can potentially save many ambulance journeys and may even prevent hospitalisation.

Can you imagine…
Can you imagine – If Medi Tech Trust had not collected these beds from a Hospice in Kent – who were upgrading beds for their patients, where would they be.
WORST CASE SCENARIO - LANDFILL
Another alternative – where possible – dismantling the beds (with all the costs involved) and sorting the various materials. Extra costs, transporting parts to suitable recycling facilities and time spent sourcing these.
WHEN -THEY COULD BE SENT T0: WAR ZONES or LOW-INCOME COUNTRIES
This is what Medi Tech Trust in Hailsham does…. What can be recycled to East Sussex happens – the rest – nothing is wasted.

Medi Tech Trust welcomes a visitor from Malawi to Hailsham.
Medi Tech Trust welcomed Dr Charles Mabedi to its headquarters this week. Dr Mabedi who is the head of the Urology Department at Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe, Malawi made a special visit to Hailsham to thank the team and all the volunteers for their support for his hospital. Dr. Mabedi was shown around the office and warehouses and met staff and volunteers.
In the past Medi Tech Trust has organised training courses in both the Urology and Gynaecology departments with our humanitarian doctor Suzie Venn giving her time to train medical staff in modern procedures.
Kamuzu Central Hospital is a 1,200-bed tertiary hospital catering for central and northern Malawi. It has a 20-bed urology department which is led by Dr Mabedi, who returned to Lilongwe in January 2020, after a 2-year fellowship in the UK. This was based in Sussex where he has made many close friends and colleagues.
The charity has also donated many items of urological equipment which cannot be used in the UK to the hospital. Malawi faces a critical shortage of medical equipment and the impact of this is felt in the public hospitals. A lot of the equipment they use is old, with malfunctioning diagnostic machinery and very few CT scanners and X-ray machines available.
Recent donations from Medi Tech Trust arrived in Africa earlier this month and are now in transit to Kamuzu Central Hospital.

In the Press Today - Tissues Galore

Over the past two weeks, Medi Tech Trust, a charity based in Hailsham, has distributed an incredible 140,000 packets of tissues to more than 90 schools and charities across East Sussex, Brighton and Hove — with a further 5,000 packets going to both Ukraine next week and in collaboration with Hailsham Gospel Mission, to the Bethesda children’s centre in Sierra Leone, later this year.

What started as an unexpected donation from a distributor clearing stock quickly, turned into a mountain of tissues filling the warehouse — and the Medi Tech Trust team knew exactly what to do: get them into the hands of local community groups, charities, food banks and schools who could benefit most.
The operation was no small feat, but one the team embraced wholeheartedly. Stuart Flynn, Warehouse Manager at Medi Tech Trust, said:
“It’s been a privilege delivering tissues to so many smiling faces — and having a laugh with people whose football rivals happen to be printed on the packets! Unfortunately, I dipped into a bus lane in Brighton so that delivery cost me £35”.

Bob Lewis, Honorary CEO of Medi Tech Trust, added:
“Supporting our local community is always our top priority. Not only will these donations save schools and community groups money, but we hope they’ve also brought some joy and laughter along the way. We are always please to receive more opportunities like this to continue serving our community.”

We are once again grateful to Medi Tech Trust for once again helping us with much needed aid.
Unfortunately the video was corrupted but I did get a picture of the thank you certificate from a military unit which I presented to Stuart.
