Seven ESAM members recently returned from a 3 day trip to Somerset, around the county, and back; taking the scenic route and backlanes wherever possible!

Doing just under 200 miles each day, with refreshment breaks at cafes and viewpoints, staying two nights in Glastonbury.

The weather was kind, remaining mostly dry over all 3 days and managed to stay ahead of the chasing weather front on the journey home.

With one member carrying ESAM's defibrillator just in case, reducing the time to get essential equipment to those in need.

Congratulations to Lee.S who achieved his Masters with Distinction. Tony.G was the Examiner and Steve.C was his Mentor.

Over the past 6 months ESAM members have attended tailored motorcycle emergency first aid courses run by (ELST)

Following these courses the importance of having the right equipment to hand in minutes can make all the difference. The ESAM committee agreed to invest in a defibrillator, with the requirements that it's small, compact & robust so that it can be carried on a motorcycle during our events and ride outs. With the help and advice from Andy at ELST we purchased defib' , a protective case and it fits perfectly in a top box.

Are you a motorcyclist in Sussex?

Had a crash where you were injured? If so, read on..

Sussex Police are conducting a pilot project for motorcyclists, to take part in free of charge, to reduce motorcycle crashes in the future.

What does it involve:
- You’ll be required to complete a survey before and after the course
- Attend DVSA Burgess Hill for a 4-hour practical riding session to address issues involving the crash
- Complete online learning modules

Are you eligible:
- Valid UK driving licence (suitable for your motorcycle)
- A legal, roadworthy motorcycle
- Appropriate protective clothing – including helmet and gloves
- Must have been involved in a motorcycle collision in the last two years

Would you like to help reduce motorcycle crashes in the future?

To sign up, click the link below where you’ll be directed to complete a short survey and register your interest.

This research project is funded by the Road Safety Trust.

PC Steve Bucksey from the Sussex Police Road Safety Team, and leading the programme, said: “Motorcycling offers a sense of freedom and excitement, but we recognise that collisions can happen—and when they do, the difference between a minor injury and a life-changing or fatal outcome can be incredibly small.

“We're inviting motorcyclists in Sussex who have been involved in a collision to join our pilot programme. This course has been developed around the main causes of motorcycle collisions, with practical training designed to help prevent them from happening again. By taking part, you'll gain skills to keep yourself safer on the road, while helping us create a programme that could benefit riders across the country in the future.”

Last month both of our monthly ride outs managed to miss the cold and wet weather.

Both remained fairly local but took the long way round:

The Development ride set off from Hailsham with a loop down to Birling Gap, finishing at Happy Days Cafe at Golden Cross.

The Brekkie Ride again set off from Hailsham, taking in the scenic route to Tottingham Farm Shop at Heathfield.

Both of these rides are open to members and associates (riders currently in training on the Advanced Riders Course). In attendance they appear very similar however the Development Ride is set up and run by a team of observers to help build confidence, knowledge, and giving people a supported opportunity to try out new things; this month's ride was led by Steve, his first time leading, and Lee was tail rider (his 3rd or 4th time after doing the role for the first time this summer).

Last weekend's Brekkie Ride managed to miss the rain, despite the damp roads the day turning out to be rather nice with sunny spells.

7 riders headed out to Hanger 9 Cafe at Redhill Aerodrome for refreshments, then headed back to Hailsham.
