Over the weekend, Fairhill Rise and rhe Colquhoun Research Centre hosted a Weaving Colour Workshop led by Eta Ingham Lawrie.

Textiles practitioners from Ruskin Mill Trust provisions came together for a long weekend of weaving, conversations, and thoughtful attention to place and material.

Working with wool and natural fibres the focus was on noticing and creatively responding to the colours and moods already present in the landscape.

There was a real sense of warmth and generosity throughout; learning through doing, exchanging skills and knowledge, and taking time to observe how colour, texture and rhythm emerge through experience.

Many thanks to Eta and to everyone who took part. The weavings created will now find their into Ruskin Mill provisions across the country, carrying something of this shared experience with them.

Fairhill Rise is a day support service for adults with additional needs, set within 60 acres of woodland, meadows and gardens in Pishwanton Wood, Haddington.

We offer a calm, outdoor-focused environment where participants can spend their days learning practical skills, working with their hands, and being part of a meaningful routine. Our approach is grounded in the rhythms of the land - providing real work and real outcomes.

Participants can take part in a range of hands-on workshops, including:

🥗 Food Processing and Catering – learning food hygiene, preparing meals, and processing produce grown on site, such as apple juice, jams and cordials.

🔨 Construction & Maintenance – building, repairing and maintaining structures around the site while learning how to use tools safely.

🧶 Dyeing and Weaving – creating woven pieces on a variety of looms, making dyes from plants grown on site, and experimenting with eco-printing on fabric and cards.

🌿 Land Work & Horticulture – caring for the garden and growing areas from seed to harvest, including composting and seed saving.

🐣 Animal Husbandry – supporting the daily care of our animals, including feeding routines, health checks, and helping to care for new arrivals in the spring.

At Fairhill Rise, we focus on offering meaningful, practical and rewarding experiences, supporting participants to build skills, confidence and independence in a natural, supportive setting.

Lighting the Way into Advent.

On Sunday we welcomed children and families for a peaceful Advent Spiral.
Earlier in the week, Fairhill Rise participants and staff had gathered greenery and carefully prepared the spiral, creating a beautiful space of care and reverence.

As each child walked the spiral and lit their candle, the room slowly filled with a warm, quiet glow - a moment of stillness and wonder marking the beginning of the Advent season.
Outside, the lanterns offered a gentle light at the close of the event.

Thank you to and everyone who helped shape this beautiful occasion ⭐️
