After 5 incredible years, our £3.2m The National Lottery Heritage Fund Tamara Scheme has come to an end!

The Tamara Landscape Partnership Scheme has brought together farmers, communities, organisations and volunteers to help restore nature, celebrate heritage and connect people with the Tamar Valley landscape.

Together we achieved:
🚶 The 87-mile Tamara Coast to Coast Way
⛴ The return of the historic Calstock Ferry as a trial
👩‍🌾 £1.8 million additional secured for farmers and land managers through agri-environment schemes
👨‍👩‍👧 21,000 people taking part in events and training
🏫 2,500 school children engaged
🌿 420 hectares of habitat restored (3 Kit Hill Country Parks)
🌳 100,000 trees planted, 66km new hedgerows
🍎 6 new orchards, and over 20 allotments

From restoring habitats to supporting local food producers and reconnecting communities with the landscape, the impact of the scheme can now be seen right across the Tamar Valley.

A huge thank you to National Lottery players, our partners and the many people who helped make this possible.

What a day for community action!
The Tamar Valley Community Action for Nature Forum took place on Saturday, and what a fantastic success it was.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, shared ideas, asked questions and contributed to such open, thoughtful conversations. From inspiring talks to practical discussions and new connections forming across the room, the energy and commitment to nature recovery in the Tamar Valley was truly encouraging.

A real highlight was our visit to Duke Orchard and Duchess Green in Landulph, powerful examples of what can happen when communities come together to transform spaces for wildlife and people.

If you couldn’t join us but would like to explore how your parish, group or neighbourhood can take action for nature and community in the Tamar Valley, we’d love to hear from you.

🌳Want to make your community spaces more nature-friendly, resilient and inspiring?

Join us on Saturday 28 February for the Tamar Valley Community Action for Nature Forum, a welcoming, practical day designed to support real local action.

Highlight: Visit Duke Orchard & Duchess Green, created by the community itself! As part of the day, we’ll be heading out on a guided visit to two beautiful community-led spaces in Landulph:

🌳 Duke Orchard: where volunteers have restored old orchard land with 60+ fruit trees, benches and inclusive paths overlooking the river, returning nature and peaceful space to the heart of the valley.
🌼 Duchess Green: a former daffodil field now transformed into a wildlife-rich green space with wildflower meadows, emerging habitat for butterflies and dragonflies, a new pond and room for people of all ages to enjoy nature together.

This is a rare chance to walk and learn from a living example of what community action can do, a place for wildlife, learning and shared enjoyment.

What else to expect:
🌱 Talks from local and regional community groups
🌼 Showcases of successful projects from across the valley and beyond
🤝 Time to connect, collaborate and share ideas
🗣️ Open conversations about your community’s needs and next steps

Join our Free Thursday Walking Group this week on the 12 February, for a woodland adventure near Luckett, exploring the beautiful Greenscoombe Woods.

🗓 Thursday 12 February
🕙 Meet at 10:00am
📍 Meeting point: Free Luckett Car Park (PL17 8NL)
📍 what3words: sitting.bells.lifetimes
⏱ Estimated time: 90+ minutes

Route: Luckett / Greenscoombe Woods Circular
Starting along a quiet lane, we’ll head down to a lovely riverside woodland path, passing old mine workings before climbing a steep track up to an ancient hill fort.

It’s steep, rough and slippery in places, but well worth the effort for the peaceful woodland and valley views. No stiles. Wellies or very good boots are essential.

🌦️ The forecast looks a little brighter, with light rain and even some sunshine possible, so come prepared and enjoy whatever the weather brings.

💚 Free and open to all.

🚶‍♂️ Walk & Talk Group – Change of Venue (Wed 11 February)
Due to the very wet ground conditions, we’re changing the location of this week’s walk to make things a little drier and more comfortable underfoot.

Instead of Lopwell Dam, we’ll now be meeting at:
📍 Kit Hill Country Park – Incline Car Park, PL17 8HW
///suspends.text.isolated
(on the B3257, north side of Kit Hill)
🕥 10.30am

From here we’ll take a gentle, gradual climb to the summit to (hopefully!) enjoy those wonderful wide views, before following a mix of paths back down.

Fresh air, good company and a relaxed pace as always — everyone very welcome.
