One of our members, Margaret Russell has passed on some sad news to the Art Society.

“Some sad news to report. Peter Drake once our treasurer has passed away after an illness. He had a wicked sense of humour and was a well respected friendly gentleman. I sent a card to his wife Margaret expressing our feelings and sadness on the Society’s behalf”

A photo of one of our members "messy art room" as he calls it.
It looks very tidy to me.
The room and the paintings belong to John Sloan.
As you can see, John enjoys painting a variety of subjects.

On Monday evening Paul Talbot-Greaves, a watercolour, oil and acrylic artist based in Huddersfield, delivered a demonstration with a theme of Watercolour Landscape, to PAS members, their guests and visitors from the area and other local Art groups. It was a very enjoyable and informative experience for the 30 people who attended, many of whom felt they had learnt a great deal from the evening through Paul’s expertise and excellent teaching style. For the presentation, Paul used his own camera and projector system, and ensured, via a large screen, that everyone was able to see his painting develop through each stage of the process, from sketching out the scene to the completed piece. As Paul progressed his painting he explained in detail, reasons for his choice of materials and painting technique, and offered hints and tips throughout, which those present can now transfer to their own work. A most enjoyable and valuable learning experience for all!

Congratulations to one of our members, Moira Hunt for having had 3 of her paintings selected and published in the Leisure Painter Magazine this year.
The Leisure Painter have a monthly ‘Art Club Challenge’ with a different theme each month.
The paintings Moira has had published in the magazine are :-
Autumn in Cragside. ….Theme - Autumn Colour. (January Challenge )
Watercolour. 11.7 ins x 8.3 ins

Lost And Found ….. Theme - Winter Landscapes ( March Challenge)
Acrylic on canvas. 11.7 x 8.3ins

Methuselah Tree …..Theme - Colour. ( April Challenge)
Acrylic on canvas. 11.7 x 8.3 ins
The Methuselah Tree is reputedly the oldest living tree in the world, and only a handful of people know its location, so there is less opportunity for an act of vandalism to occur.
Moira painted the tree in the style of The Group Of Seven ( Canadian Artists) as she particular liked their use of colour and imagery. It was painted with acrylic , in the style of watercolour.

Moira likes to challenge herself when painting, she sees each piece of work as a puzzle to be solved…..she really enjoys trying to solve the puzzle.

Well done Moira, three lovely paintings.

We have a lot of talented artists at Priory Art Society, and a number of them have also had work published in Leisure Painter over the years.
Moira would like to encourage other members to think about entering the monthly challenge too.
