Banstead Swifts are still asking for anyone in Dorking to 1. Report to them any knowledge they have of seeing the Swift colony before demolition and especially if they reported that in, and who too, or photo or film evidence. 2. Contact Surrey Police on 101, asking for Wildlife crimes unit and report the crime. They have still not had a response from the police! This situation is totally unacceptable and we should spread it far and wide to make a lot of noise about this.

Campaigners say builders’ demolition of nest site highlights weak protection of wildlife from development

Swifts are affected by Climate change, as are all our wildlife, but Swifts spending their life on the wing are particularly affected by increasing storms, growing deserts and even heat waves causing dehydration and fledglings getting too hot in nests. The climate also affects insect population, there only food source.
Please sign this petition, we need the facts, awarness and some common sense for what we can do as citizens to help ourselves and our wildlife. Now is not the time to be kepted in the dark, or miss information.

The UK faces growing risks from climate and nature breakdown - from extreme weather to economic disruption and national security threats. Yet the public has never been given a clear national briefing on the scale of these risks. Government should hold an emergency briefing from leading experts.

Yesterday that last egg in the corner was well and truly pushed out the box and smashed on the ground below the box. No sign of the other laid egg outside, so we think one of the Swifts took it away in there mouth. I have seen film footage of Swifts doing this, but usually first timer breeding pair, ours are very experienced now, so who knows. Feeling a little bit low πŸ˜•, but we must hold on to hope, we have breeders in box one and a neighbour in our street reported seeing another breeding pair enter a box in our street. So far we have 5 boxes occupied, there could be more, we will report back as soon as we know.

Oh No πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ! So sorry to have to report this. We turned on the camera, only to find, one egg has disappeared and the 2nd egg kicked out of the nest. The nest seems to be also messed up a bit, so we are guessing there was a Swift intruder and a fight, but as we did not see it , we cannot be sure. The other possibility is it just got too hot, and they decided these eggs would not work, but I am thinking it was a fight as many other Swift groups are reporting more increase in fighting this year, as arrivals have been staggered. Very upsetting, but it does happen and this is nature.
There could still be time yet to lay another egg, fingers crossed . We will keep you reported. Honestly some times having a camera is a double edge sword! But we do need to know and record good and bad .
