💜 Happy Mother's Day! Yesterday we took part in a global Mothers' Rebellion action to show our concern for how the climate crisis is affecting our children and others around the world.

A mother's fierce love and determination to protect her children is a force to be reckoned with. All kids deserve a safe and healthy world to grow up in. 🌏

Amazing to be joined by at .airport today, plus hundreds of people from near and far to protest against the airport's plans to increase private jet flights by 40%.

It's incredible to go from 10 people protesting at the airport gate a few years ago, to this! Thank you to all of you who came to support us - especially those who live locally and suffer the noise and pollution from the airport every day, who had never been on a march before but felt motivated to do something about it. You are brilliant.

There is no excuse for private jets. They are a wasteful luxury the planet can't afford, and we will continue to stand against plans to increase them. ✈️🚫

Air pollution is one of the leading causes of death in the UK, and particularly affects babies and children.

Idling engines create thousands of tonnes of emissions per year in Surrey alone - often around schools and built-up areas.

We have until Thursday to object to the Broadford Bridge drill site run by UK Oil & Gas (UKOG) - the same company that wants to drill in Dunsfold.

Once again, pesticides which destroy entire ecosystems - especially those of pollinators like bees - have been given 'emergency approval'.

In every single year except one since these destructive pesticides were banned in 2018, the government have approved them for 'emergency use' - for longer and longer periods of time.

If these really are 'emergencies', then what are we doing to actually solve the problem? And how do we solve the very real emergency of the wholesale destruction of our wildlife, ecosystems, countryside, rivers, and the health of our food, water and soil?

Permission to treat sugar beet seeds with a pesticide that can harm bees is given by the government.

On the same day 2023 was confirmed as the hottest on record by far, the legal case against oil drilling at Dunsfold was rejected. The government have successfully pushed this disastrous project through.

On the very same day it was confirmed that 2023 nearly hit 1.5 degrees heating above average - the Court of Appeal rejected the legal case against oil drilling at Dunsfold.

Despite twice being rejected by SCC, the government forced through this proposal. Waverley Borough Council has been appealing this in court for over a year.

For the people of Dunsfold, and for the planet, this reckless and destructive plan cannot go ahead.

Opponents of gas exploration near the Surrey village of Dunsfold have been refused permission for a further appeal.

As COP28 wraps up with a weak, useless final agreement, the UK had no ministers present at all - they all flew back to Parliament to help force through the government's shameful Rwanda failure.

If this isn't the final nail in the coffin of any pretence that the UK under the Tories is a 'climate leader' and not a massive climate hypocrite, we don't know what is.

An interesting insight from COP28 - unlike almost all other governments, the UK representatives have been hiding from scrutiny, refusing to hold press conferences or answer any questions.

It's almost as if they know the UK government is failing miserably on its climate targets, and in fact going backwards - having recently licensed decades more oil drilling and attempted to open new coalmines, while attacking renewables and insulation.

Rishi Sunak was forced into actually turning up by public outcry, but quickly left again - spending longer on the private jet than he did at the conference.

We are at risk of crossing, or may already have crossed, five global 'climate tipping points' - thresholds that lead to large, accelerating and likely irreversible changes in our climate system.

The feedback loops this would set off may make it impossible to limit global heating and other catastrophic impacts of climate breakdown - making it impossible for potentially billions of people to access food, water or shelter.

Three more tipping points are at risk by the 2030s. And yet the UK is actively going backwards on our climate targets, and UK representatives have been dodging questions and journalists at COP28.

We desperately, urgently need a government that will take the climate action necessary to prevent this breakdown.

Humanity faces ‘devastating domino effects’ including mass displacement and financial ruin as planet warms
