๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿฟ๏ธ New Skill Unlocked: FIRE! ๐Ÿฟ๏ธ๐Ÿ”ฅ

There was plenty of excitement at Squirrels this week as some of our young adventurers took their very first lesson in using flint and steel.

With a little spark, a lot of patience, and some fantastic teamwork, our Squirrels discovered that great things happen when you keep trying. ๐ŸŒŸ

Once the sparks were flying, it was time to gather what we needed, build a fire together, and turn it into the ultimate woodland treatโ€ฆ

๐Ÿ˜‹ Sโ€™MORES!

From learning a new skill to practising perseverance and working as a team, our Squirrels showed just what theyโ€™re capable of. And judging by the smiles (and sticky fingers!), they thoroughly enjoyed the rewards of their hard work.

Well done, Squirrels โ€“ weโ€™re so proud of you! โค๏ธ๐Ÿฟ๏ธ

๐Ÿ’š Could you help make moments like this possible? Weโ€™re always looking for enthusiastic adult volunteers to join our team. Whether you can help every week, occasionally, or behind the scenes, weโ€™d love to hear from you. No previous Scouting experience is needed โ€“ just a willingness to join in and help young people gain .

Drop us a message to find out more about volunteering with 1st New Waltham Scouts. You might just unlock a new skill of your own! ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ˜Š

๐Ÿด๐Ÿ’š Highland Games, New Friendships and Scouting at its Best! ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿด

This week our Cubs had the fantastic opportunity to join our friends at 5th Grimsby - Scartho - Scout Group for an evening of Highland-themed fun, friendship and friendly competition.

With over 70 Cubs taking part, young people from both groups were mixed into teams and challenged to compete for the title of Highland Champion Cubs. ๐Ÿ†

The evening was packed with Scottish-inspired activities, from caber tossing and haggis throwing to Highland challenges that had everyone laughing, cheering and encouraging one another along the way.

More importantly, the session was a wonderful example of what Scouting is all about. Cubs had the opportunity to meet new people, work as part of a team, challenge themselves and make new friends, all whilst having an incredible amount of fun.

A huge thank you to everyone at 5th Grimsby Scout Group for the invitation and for putting together such a fantastic event. Opportunities like these demonstrate the strength of Scouting within our local community and the amazing experiences that can be created when groups work together.

Our Cubs had an absolutely brilliant time. We canโ€™t wait for the next adventure! ๐ŸŒŸ

๐Ÿ’š๐ŸŽ‰ THANK YOU, TEAM OTTERโ€™S ROMP 2026! ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ’š
What an incredible few weeks it has been, and it seems we have so much to celebrate right now!

Firstly, a huge thank you to our amazing Team Otterโ€™s Romp 2026, everyone who donated, shared our posts, cheered us on, and supported our fundraising efforts. Together, you have raised a fantastic ยฃ1,674.91!

Special mention must go to our wonderful T-Rex and Axolotls, whose bucket shaking and smiles raised an amazing ยฃ131.14 on the day! ๐Ÿฆ–๐Ÿ’—

The money raised will be invested straight back into the Group and will help fund some much-needed replacement equipment, including new camp cookers and compasses, ensuring our young people can continue to enjoy fantastic adventures and learn .

And thatโ€™s not allโ€ฆ

Our fabulous cheering station once again received fantastic feedback from the Tape2Tape organisers, for the atmosphere created by our young people, families and volunteers. Those cheers, high-fives, posters and musical shakers really do make a difference!

From runners and bucket shakers, to poster makers and supporters on the sidelines, thank you all. Every single one of you played a part in making this yearโ€™s event such a success.

1st New Waltham Scouts really is something special, and weโ€™re incredibly proud of what we achieve together.

๐Ÿ’œ Happy Fatherโ€™s Day ๐Ÿ’œ

Today, we celebrate all the father figures and role models who make a difference in the lives of our young people.

Whether youโ€™re a dad, step-dad, grandad, uncle, big brother, foster carer, family friend, or one of the many amazing volunteers who quietly go the extra Scouting mile, thank you. From helping with camps and lifts, to supporting badges, cheering from the sidelines, or simply being there when it matters most, your encouragement, patience and kindness help young people grow and thrive.

Scouting is built on family, friendship and community, and weโ€™re incredibly grateful for everyone who gives their time, support and care to make adventures possible.

From all of us at 1st New Waltham Scouts, we wish you a wonderful Fatherโ€™s Day. ๐Ÿ’œ

๐Ÿฅ‡๐Ÿ† THE GOLDEN PEG WINNERS! ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿฅ‡

Last week saw Scouts from across the District take part in the much-coveted Golden PEG Competition, with this yearโ€™s challenge being โ€œRace Across Cleethorpesโ€ think Race Across the World, but with a much smaller budget and no passports required! ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ˜‚

Patrols had to balance both time and money as they raced around Cleethorpes, deciding whether to spend precious minutes completing challenges to earn cash or risk running out before reaching the finish. Every decision mattered!

Weโ€™re incredibly proud to announce that 1st New Waltham Scouts took 1st place and brought home the Golden PEG! ๐Ÿฅ‡

With 17 teams competing, our Scouts demonstrated fantastic teamwork, navigation and problem-solving skills throughout the evening. It seems all those navigation activities and random challenges we include in our programme have paid off!

A huge well done to all of our Scouts who took part. Despite a few last-minute withdrawals resulting in smaller teams, they gave it their all and represented our group brilliantly.

Congratulations also to 1st Healing Scouts on winning the Silver PEG and 11th Grimsby Scouts for securing the final podium place. ๐Ÿ‘

Finally, a massive thank you to all the volunteers who organised such a fantastic event. Our Scouts had an amazing evening, and weโ€™re delighted to finally get our hands on the Golden PEG!

We can hardly believe that a week has already passed since four of our Scouts and Group Lead Volunteer, Kayley (Otter), had the incredible privilege of representing Grimsby & Cleethorpes District Scouts during the visit of His Majesty The King to Horizon Youth Zone.

His Majesty had specifically requested to meet Scouts and Cadets as part of his visit, making this an especially significant and memorable opportunity for the young people involved.

Our Scouts had the chance to speak directly with The King about Scouting, camping, badges, leadership opportunities and volunteering. They proudly shared their experiences of earning badges, taking part in adventurous activities, and helping to support younger members within our Group.

His Majesty spoke warmly about the importance of Scouting, the skills for life it provides, and the vital role that volunteers play in helping young people grow and thrive. He also encouraged our Scouts to consider becoming adult volunteers in the future, describing them as the leaders of tomorrow.

For 1st New Waltham - Grimsby - Squirrel, Beaver, Cub and Scout Group, this was a truly special occasion. We were immensely proud to represent not only our Scout Group, but also the wider Scouting community across Grimsby & Cleethorpes District Scouts.

Most importantly, we were incredibly proud of Eve, Freddie, Benjamin and Harry. They represented themselves, their families, their Scout Group and their District with confidence, maturity and enthusiasm, and they were a credit to Scouting throughout the day.

Opportunities like this do not come along very often. Meeting His Majesty The King is something our Scouts will remember for the rest of their lives, and we feel very fortunate to have been part of such a historic and memorable occasion.

A week later, weโ€™re still smiling when we think about it. ๐Ÿ’šโšœ๏ธ๐Ÿ‘‘

๐Ÿšค๐ŸŒŠ Beavers Visit Cleethorpes RNLI Lifeboat Station ๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿšค

This week our Beavers enjoyed a fantastic visit to the new RNLI Lifeboat Station in Cleethorpes, learning all about what it takes to be an RNLI volunteer and crew member. ๐Ÿ’™

Our Beavers explored the lifeboat station, learnt about the different boats used in rescues, and discovered the skills, teamwork and dedication needed to help keep people safe at sea.

With our Beaver colony growing so brilliantly, we split into two groups for the evening. While one group explored the station, the other enjoyed some time on Cleethorpes beach, getting creative in the sand and making the most of being by the coast. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ

The groups then swapped over, giving everyone the opportunity to experience the lifeboat station inside and out.

One of the highlights of the evening was hearing the fantastic questions our Beavers asked. Their curiosity, enthusiasm and interest in learning more about the RNLI and the important work they do was wonderful to see. ๐ŸŒŸ

A huge thank you to the team at the RNLI Cleethorpes for giving up their time to inspire our young people and show them what community volunteering and service are all about. ๐Ÿ’™

๐ŸŒพ๐Ÿฟ๏ธ A Step Back in Time for Our Squirrels! ๐Ÿฟ๏ธ๐ŸŒพ

A huge thank you to everyone at the Waltham Windmill Museum for making our Squirrels feel so welcome and giving them such a fantastic experience.

Our young adventurers enjoyed stepping back in time as they explored the museum, discovered what life was like in years gone by, and learned all about the history of this wonderful local landmark. They also had the opportunity to visit the windmill itself, where they learned how it works and the important role it has played in our local community.

One of the highlights of the evening was a ride on the steam train, which brought plenty of smiles, excitement, and happy faces! ๐Ÿš‚๐Ÿ˜Š

We were incredibly proud of our Squirrels, who asked lots of sensible questions throughout the visit and showed great curiosity and enthusiasm as they explored.

Experiences like these help bring history to life and show our young people just how much there is to discover right on their doorstep.

Well done, Squirrels! We hope you had a fantastic time exploring the Windmill and Museum. ๐Ÿ’š

๐Ÿง ๐Ÿ—๏ธ Building Skills for Life at Cherry Garth ๐Ÿ—๏ธ๐Ÿง

While one group of Scouts headed to the water, the rest of the troop spent the evening at Cherry Garth developing some equally important skills.

The session began with a discussion about what Scouting means to them, the opportunities available through the programme, and how activities, camps and adventures help young people grow in confidence, independence and resilience.

Linking back to some recent navigation activities, we also explored how different Scouts bring different strengths to a team and how working together helps overcome skills gaps and challenges.

The Scouts then put this into practice through a series of engineering and teamwork challenges, including building a chair capable of supporting a Scout and devising creative ways to move objects without touching them. The ideas, communication and problem-solving on display were fantastic!

It was brilliant to see our Scouts thinking creatively, supporting one another and discovering that sometimes the best solutions come from working together.

A great reminder that Scouting isnโ€™t just about adventure, itโ€™s also about developing confidence, leadership, teamwork and skills that last a lifetime. ๐ŸŒŸ

๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿ„โ€โ™‚๏ธ Scouts Take to the Water! ๐Ÿ„โ€โ™€๏ธ๐ŸŒŠ

This week, some of our Scouts had the opportunity to enjoy an evening of paddleboarding, building confidence, balance and water skills while having plenty of fun along the way.

For many young people, getting out on the water is a completely different challenge to those they face on land. It encourages resilience, determination and a willingness to step outside their comfort zone, all while enjoying the great outdoors.

Itโ€™s no secret that we donโ€™t get on the water as often as weโ€™d like, and thatโ€™s definitely something on our list for the future. Activities like this are always hugely popular with our Scouts, and weโ€™d love to create even more opportunities for them to experience adventures afloat. ๐ŸŒŠ

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the session possible and to our Scouts, who approached the evening with enthusiasm, encouragement and a real sense of adventure.

Because sometimes the best classroom doesnโ€™t have four wallsโ€ฆ it has a paddleboard! ๐Ÿ’š
