Carers' Support NEL

Carers' Support NEL Working with Carers in North East Lincolnshire - We have been supporting Carers since 1989 Our support is free and confidential.

If you look after someone who can't manage without you because they have an illness, medical condition, disability, mental health condition or substance misuse problem, you are a Carer. You may help with managing medication, medical appointments, managing finances, washing and dressing, emotional support over the phone, moving and handling, weekly shopping... the list is endless. The support you p

rovide may take only an hour or two a week up to 24 hours a day. It doesn't matter how much or how little you provide, what matters is the person you provide support to needs your support. Carers are unpaid (so not Care Workers - the definition doesn't include volunteers either) but you may receive Carers Allowance. We have been supporting Carers in North Lincolnshire since 1989, and in North East Lincolnshire since 2014. You can access as much or as little support as you like. At it's most basic, we are here for advice and information, if you need a telephone number, have a question about caring or you're not sure where to turn. Get in touch via phone: 01472 242277, email: [email protected], via facebook or pop in to the centre at 1 Town Hall Square, Grimsby, DN31 1HY

When the person you care for has a stay in hospital, you may want to be involved and informed. The Carer Lanyard helps to do just that!

You can speak to a member of ward staff on admission, but right from the start, even in A&E, you can let the hospital know you are a Carer for the person they are treating.

The staff will ask the person you care for if they want you to be involved in their care (if appropriate).

*You will have a conversation about the support you want to provide (if any) while the person you care for is in hospital.

*You will be given a lanyard, which means all hospital staff know why you are there, without having to ask and without you having to explain.

*There are much fewer restrictions on visiting for those with a lanyard.
