⚜️Scouts: Adventure of a Lifetime

When some of our cubs volunteer team visited Poacher International Jamboree with the cubs last Wednesday we saw only occasional glimpses in the distance of our Scouts who were there for the full week-long Poacher experience. Oh and one quick hello. But why? Not because they didn't want to chat but because this really was the adventure of a lifetime and with smiles from ear to ear and half a week left there were so many more activities still to do, so many more people to meet, experiences to enjoy and memories to make and they didn't want to miss a single minute. And ⭐️wow⭐️ they were so right.

Want to know why? Check out the Poacher International Jamboree video of highlights👇

⚜️Junior Poacher Adventures

On Wednesday some of our cubs and adult volunteers went to Poacher International Jamboree as day visitors and what an incredible day it was.

Joining with friends from West Grimsby Scout Group and 1st Laceby Scout Group they all launched themselves enthusiatically into trying the many activities on offer.

⭐️From caving to crazy golf, water wars to crafts, karting to bumber boats, climbing to aqua zorbing, archeology to animal petting, dinosaurs to trampolines and inflatables to mega slides and so many more activities they all grasped every opportunity with both hands👐

And as if the activities werent enough we were also left in awe watching the horse and surfing team competition in the main arena and managed a visit to our scouting friends on Asia subcamp who kindly welcomed us over lunchtime.

It was a full day of adventure and our young members with our fabulous adult volunteers in tow and trying to keep up could not have crammed any more into their day if they had tried and believe me they tried 🤣🙃🤣

We are so proud of their approach and also the encouragement and care shown to fellow members throughout the day. In 4 years time we hope these cubs having had a taste may be our next Scouts confidently attending the Poacher International Jamboree

⚜️Today's the Day: Poacher 2026! ⚜️🏕

☀️Today some of our Scouts along with leader Matt start their week-long Poacher International Jamboree adventure. Camping with fellow scouters from 1st Howden Scouts they join thousands of others for a week jam packed with the hundreds of activities, challenges and entertainment on offer, opportunities to try new things, meet new people and create memories that will last a lifetime.
👇
And on Wednesday some of the cubs, joining with others from across the District will also be going along for the day to Junior Poacher. What a great opportunity for them too to be part of such an amazing event💚.

🔷️This amazing Jamboree based at the Lincolnshire Showground comes around every 4 years and will be attended by 10,000 members of Scouting and Guiding. What a great opportunity for our members to be part of something spectacular👏

We can't wait to hear all about their adventures

⚜️Beavers: A Farm Finale🐮🐏🦙

🔷️The beavers ended the term with a lovely visit to Nunnys Farm🐇.

🐴They enjoyed meeting and feeding all the animals and petting the guinea pigs was definitely a highlight.

💚The beavers love to spend time outdoors and to see first hand what animals need to live, such as proper food, clean water, and space gave them a real-life multi-sensory experience and connection.

😊 Thank you to Nunnys Farm for being so welcoming. Its great to have such a great urban facility on the doorstep

⭐️Thank to our volunteers who are great at planning interesting and varied experiences. And a huge shout out to our young members who really make each week so enjoyable😁.

🙋If you are an adult with a little time to spare and thinking of volunteering our team could be for you and we would love to hear from you

⚜️ Cubs: Sails and Rails

Our Cub Scouts finished this term with a fantastic evening visit to the iconic Waltham Windmill
The highlights of our night:
🏰 Adventuring to the top of the historic windmill.
🚂 Riding the brilliant miniature railway
🏚Exploring the fascinating Museum of Rural Life
🍦 Enjoying a delicious and well deserved ice cream
🙋Meeting the amazing volunteers who made their visit so enjoyable.

💚It is important that as well as looking to the future our young people are able to make connections with the past. We are so lucky to have people in the local community who are not only passionate about preserving history but are willing to take the time to share it with our young people in scouting - thank you

The Cubs had an absolute blast, and it was also the perfect setting to celebrate all of their achievements over the last few months with the presentation of badges and awards.👏👏

Check out some of our pics from the night! 👇

⚜️Cub Scouts: choosing boots🥾 over wheels🚴‍♀️

Whilst some of the cub scouts were cycling last week, some chose instead to do an urban hike 🥾 with the added pleasure of finding wild bramble hedges along the way.

⭐️Offering choices to our cub scouts and asking them to make decisions is a key element of youth-led leadership and personal development. Offering choice also ensures that all our young people can join in and be included regardless of their ability, confidence or preference. That way everyone has fun and can work towards badges and awards😁

Those brambles did look very juicy😋

♦️We all like choices. Which would you choose bike or hike with added bramble picking?🤔

You may have seen our cubs out hiking or biking on the circuit around Scartho Top give us a 👍

🙋‍♂️To be able to offer choice we need a big enough volunteer team to run a variety of activites. Thinking of volunteering? We would love to welcome you on our team

⚜️Cub Scouts: Safety and confidence on two wheels
🚴🚴‍♀️🚴‍♀️

Last week the cubs headed out around Scartho to practise their cycling skills.

♦️Having covered in the previous week basic safety checks and bike care - helmets, lights, brakes and puncture repair they were all set and did three circuits covering 5 miles. Well done cubs👏

✅️Fun, practical activities like these help build confidence, independence and prepare young people for future adventures.

👉Activities like this can only happen with a team of adult volunteers. Is biking or outdoor activities your passion? Could you consider volunteering some of your time? We would love to hear from you. Message 5th Grimsby - Scartho - Scout Group or email [email protected]

⚜️Scouts: Chilling & Chatting😁

💚Love this picture

♦️We talk a lot about the many activities, great adventures and skills for life that scouting offers. But just as important are the personal connections made and friendships forged

These Scouts waiting for their turn on the tomahawk range at Cherry Garth Scout Campsite took the opportunity for some valuable downtime. No phones. No social media pressures. Just lively discussion and banter with scouting friends.

⭐️We know some of the best Scouting memories come from the quiet moments between activities. As volunteers we sometimes just need to provide the space and time for it to happen.
