As we celebrate the last day of national volunteering week, the introduction continues to some of the faces behind the We Are ONE Foundation team.

Our lovely Frances is a relativley new recruit, to the foundatuon, and has fitted in like a duck to water.

Welcome aboard Fran ❤️

After falling ill with Rheumatoid Arthritis in 2001at the age of 26 I had to come to the realisation working full time wasn't possible, so unfortunately had to finish my full time job at links turkeys, It wasn't glamorous but I enjoyed it, Following on from that I had several jobs, Hotel reception, Bar maid, Dinner lady to the point it became apparent I couldn't work full time any longer. Since then I've been a leader at scouts entering my fifth year that my son attended I've loved every minute of it even the camping out. After my partner fell short of work towards Christmas of 2025 I found my self at the we are one foundation to help out with food. I then fell in love with the people, community and friends I had made and decided I could make a difference by volunteering.

And Saturday would not be Saturday without our Linda

A chance conversation with a friend was all it took to discover We Are One. I haven't looked back since.

Being retired, I found I had too much time on my hands and I wanted to be useful. More importantly, I wanted to make a difference where it was needed. Grimsby's poverty and addiction crisis is a cause close to my heart, so when I encountered the people at We Are One, with so much heart and kindness and nothing expected in return, I was drawn to it.

From the very first day, I saw first-hand how people are struggling, and how desperately needed our service was.

It's about more than just cooking and serving. Through smiles, tears and everything in between, I realise that we're a lifeline for people who are often neglected and forgotten. To be there with a smile, a laugh or simply a comforting word is something you can't put a price on.

Todays the day, Please support if you can affordibly do so ❤️ Volunteers will be on hand to help.

As we celebrate day 5 of national volunteering week, the introduction continues to some of the faces behind the We Are ONE Foundation team.

And as I asked all volunteers if they would like to write a few words these are the two that said the least, dispite being the ones who talk the most and being the staple in our day to day at the foundation.

So I would like to invite my team and others if they see fit, to comment what these guys mean to them.

Our Darren & our Daz, from all Trustees you are amazeballs ❤️

Retirement left a space in my life i didnt expect, as I get older I believe one should have a purpose, I missed being useful and connected as I'd been a nurse all my life.
Volunteering at We Are One changed that completely.
It gave me purpose, new friendships and a chance to be involved in helping others when they needed it most.
I am part of a phenomenal team which are now like family, we are from all walks of life totally comitted to helping others in our community.
I learnt the need to use We Are One draws people for many different reason, low income, unemployment, crisis management and homeless among others.
The generosity of the people of this town is overwhelming, businesses, schools, churches, The W.I households all contributing what they can on a regular basis.
It restores faith in human nature.

When I retired , I missed the enjoyment of working with various teams and the sense of achievement and the friendships that come out of that. Volunteering for We Are One has given me that feeling back and a sense of purpose knowing that I can make a positive contribution by giving back to the community and helping people who are struggling to cope for a wide variety of reasons. I've been amazed by the impact that a group of enthusiastic and committed volunteers can have on people's lives and the fun we have along the way. I encourage anyone whatever your age or background to give it a try , you won't regret it.
