Today, we mark the Centenary of Queen Elizabeth II’s birth.

A special event was held at Buckingham Palace to commemorate the legacy of Her Late Majesty, the longest serving RNLI Patron who held the role for 70 years.

Our charity is eternally grateful to Queen Elizabeth II and the Royal Family for their ongoing support of our lifesaving mission.

Huge congratulations to Dave Stubbs on completing his Basic Volunteer Deck Training and being presented with his pager.

Balancing a demanding work life with training is no small feat, and Dave’s determination has truly paid off.

Fantastic to have him ready to respond as part of the crew — a proud moment for the whole station

On Friday, the volunteers aboard Humber Lifeboat undertook a planned exercise, operating at times in patches of fog and challenging low‑visibility conditions, somewhat different to the weather we had earlier in the week!

In coordination with HM Coastguard, the crew carried out a navigation and search exercise: deploying training casualty — ‘Fred’ the manikin.

Once Fred was in the water, Humber Lifeboat left the scene, marking the last known position and navigating against wind and tide before commencing the search.

Despite the reduced visibility at times, the volunteers commenced navigation and search patterns to ensure the area was covered thoroughly and safely.

Fred the casualty was successfully located and recovered onboard.

Exercises like this are vital in maintaining and sharpening the skills, ensuring our crew remains prepared for whatever the Humber and North Sea throws at us.

Our thanks go to Rob Frost, our visiting Coxswain, for his expertise, professionalism, and invaluable support throughout the session.

On Tuesday, the Humber Lifeboat volunteers headed out onto the River Humber for another round of training in glorious weather.

The crew tackled a variety of tasks, each designed to build confidence, sharpen skills, and support their ongoing development as they prepare for their upcoming assessments. Every session brings them one step closer to being fully ready when the call for help comes.

Lifeboat Operations Manager David Scott said:
“A heartfelt thank you to all our fundraisers. Your generosity directly supports this essential training and ensures our volunteers have everything they need to keep people safe on the water. Your support truly saves lives.”

VOLUNTEER TRAINING ON HUMBER LIFEBOAT
On Saturday, the Humber Lifeboat was back out on exercise with our volunteer crew. The morning session focused on running through several Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs).

One of the key procedures the crew trained on was setting up and operating the emergency steering system. This forms an essential part of ensuring the lifeboat can continue to operate safely should the primary steering system fail.

This level of training is vital in helping our crew maintain their skills, confidence, and overall competency, ensuring they are always prepared for real‑world emergencies.

Celebrating International Women’s Day – 8 March

This weekend, as the RNLI marks International Women’s Day, Humber Lifeboat is proud to shine a spotlight on two of our remarkable volunteer crew members whose dedication and spirit embody everything this day stands for.

Meet Vicki Judge
Vicki joined the Humber crew just over a year ago and brings with her a love of the outdoors, hands‑on creativity, and a deep compassion for both people and animals.

When she’s not on station, you’ll likely find her walking her three dogs, tending to her garden, or building something new—whether that’s a greenhouse, a shed, or a piece of furniture. Animals are a huge part of Vicki’s life. She fosters for a cat rescue and has two cats of her own.

It was a very personal journey that led Vicki to join the RNLI. After undergoing cancer treatment and receiving extraordinary support from those around her, Vicki felt a powerful desire to give something back. Helping others matters to her, and the water has always been a place of calm and clarity. Joining the crew felt like the perfect way to combine both.

Meet Laura Allan
Laura also joined the crew just over a year ago. A mum of three and a business administrator, she somehow still finds time to be a voice actor and take part in theatre productions.

A passionate water‑sports enthusiast, she spends much of her free time paddleboarding and open‑water swimming.

Laura’s bond with the sea runs deep. As a child, she tragically lost an uncle in a scuba‑diving accident—an event that shaped her family’s lifelong support for the RNLI. So when Humber Lifeboat relocated to Grimsby and began recruiting local volunteers, Laura didn’t hesitate. She knew instantly that she wanted to be part of the crew.

Reflecting on her decision, Laura said: “I’m avidly involved in water sports and have been caught out by tides myself. It feels good to be giving something back to the community and be better educated about sea conditions, tides and optimising safety when out; for myself, my daughter who accompanies me and others.”

Vicki and Laura’s stories are powerful reminders of the courage, resilience, and generosity that women bring to the RNLI every single day. Their dedication to helping others—whether through personal experience, community spirit, or a lifelong connection to the sea—captures the very essence of International Women’s Day.

We are incredibly proud to have these two inspiring women on our crew. Their presence strengthens our station, our community, and the lifesaving work we do.

A Beautiful Day for an Exercise

Earlier this week, the Humber Lifeboat headed out on the River Humber for an exercise session with our volunteer crew.

After the run of rotten weather we’ve all endured lately, the calm water and bright sunshine were a very welcome change.

The team focused on training with the Y‑boat, taking full advantage of the perfect conditions.

TRAINING OUR VOLUNTEER CREW CONTINUES

Over the weekend, our volunteer crew took to the River Humber for a training exercise focused on anchoring drills. Three crew members were involved in the deployment, recovery, and restowing of the anchor. The drill was repeated several times so each person could rotate through every stage and build confidence in the full process.

New volunteers usually begin their training in the classroom and aboard the lifeboat while it is on its mooring. As their skills and confidence grow, they progress to sea-based training, where they continue to develop through a range of scenarios — and, of course, in all weather conditions.

“Training and developing our crews is only possible thanks to the incredible dedication of the RNLI’s fundraising teams across the UK and Ireland. Your hard work keeps our lifesaving service afloat. Thank you from everyone at RNLI Humber".
