Grimsby And Cleethorpes Model Engineering Society - GCMES We are a model engineering society founded in 1935, based on the Waltham Windmill site in Waltham, Grimsby. There are no paid members of staff.

We are a charitable organisation dedicated to promoting engineering through the construction and operation of model engineering projects. The Grimsby and Cleethorpes Model Engineering Society is based on the Waltham Windmill Site in Waltham, Grimsby. We have a railway catering for locomotives in 31/2'' 5'' and 71/4'' gauge around an inner circle, and 5'' and 71/4'' gauge around the entire track. The track is fully operated by members of the society. We rely purely on donations, train rides and membership fees to keep the society going. We have workshop facilities of which are for the use of the members. The signalling system is operated from the signal box. the Point system is pneumatically operated. We have a clubhouse which is used for the monthly meeting and various events. For any other details please feel free to email or message me.

Waltham Miniature Railway
Our main running season is now over, however we do have some special events to look forward to, The first is on Saturday 7th November.
Bring the family along to the ever popular Waltham Windmill fireworks event.
Join us for a train ride in the dark!
See the Windmill lit up by an extravagansa of fireworks!
Railway open from 5:00 until 8.00pm.
Fireworks set off at 7:00pm.
Railway Rides will be just £2.00. Other tickets not valid for this special event.

Waltham Miniature Railway – Bonus Running Session!
Thanks to the exceptionally good weather, passenger trains will run again tomorrow, Sunday 4th October, from noon until approximately 4 pm.
The Union Pacific “Dennis the Diesel”, driven by the Meercats, Sergei and Vasiliy, will once again be operating alongside other locomotives from the fleet.
Rides remain at £2.00 each.

Waltham Miniature Railway – Santa Express Update
We’re pleased to share the latest details for the Santa Express.
Enjoy a magical festive journey and meet Santa in his Grotto.
Event Details
• Dates: Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th December
• Time: 1pm–5pm
• Admission: £10 per child, including entry for one parent or guardian
• Additional adults: £3 per parent or guardian
• Group size: Maximum of six people per booking
• Gift: Each child will receive a gift of a sweet selection box

All places must be booked in advance. We’re finalising the remaining details, and the booking system will be available soon.

Tomorrow is our last running day of this season, (apart from special events). Last chance to use up any blue tickets you might still have. Trains will be running from Midday until 4pm. Tickets are just £2.00 per person. See you there!

Waltham Miniature Railway
This Sunday we will be running regular trains for the penultimate time this year, so be sure to come along and have a ride. We will be open from 12 noon until 4pm.
Use up any blue tickets you might have tucked away as they will not be valid next year.
Ride behind Holmside or Wallis (of the recent Band Train fame) or even the bright yellow GP40 - Dennis the Diesel, all welcome £2.00 per ride.

Ivy Bees nesting in the embankment alongside the railway line at Waltham Miniature Railway.
They love the light sandy soil in the bank. Though solitary (no queens or workers), thousands may nest close together as is the case here. It would seem our soil is ideal as they seem to be increasing in numbers each year.
They are peaceful, do not aggressively defend nests, and the females rarely sting (which is harmless and feels like a mild nettle touch).

Today saw another milestone passed in the new signal box build with the tiles going onto the roof. Getting there slowly!

This Sunday is Heritage Open Day at Waltham Windmill. Take the opportunity to take a free tour of the Windmill and see how the flour is produced. Then come and have a ride on the train at the adjacent Waltham Miniature Railway. the fare is just £2.00 for all classes. The Mill is open from 11.00am until 4.pm and the railway from noon until 4.00pm
Please note if you have any extra blue tickets then they need to be used by the close of the season at the end of September.
