Had a lovely afternoon pottering down Grimsby Road doing some more engagement for the Sidney Sussex Community Plan 💚

We popped into lots of local shops and businesses, chatting to people about the ward, hearing their thoughts and discovering a few places I’d somehow managed to miss along the way.

And how adorable is this little coffee shop? ☕🌿

It’s tucked inside Shorts Florist Cleethorpes, and we genuinely didn’t know it was there! Such a lovely little space surrounded by plants and flowers.

We’re definitely going back armed with our crochet one day - coffee, crochet and the smell of fresh flowers sounds like a pretty perfect way to spend an hour. 🧶☕🌸

Community engagement is also a good reminder that you can live and work in an area for years and still discover something new when you actually take the time to wander, talk to people and look around.

Yesterday’s Sidney Sussex Ward Community Feast was another reminder of why these events matter so much. ❤️

People came together, brought food to share, sat around tables, chatted, laughed and simply enjoyed spending time with one another. No complicated agenda, just community.

One of my favourite moments was when some young girls popped in and donated a bag of treats for everyone to share. Such a simple gesture, but it genuinely made us smile and reminded us how much joy we get from seeing people contribute to their own community, whatever their age.

And, as always, the conversations around the tables led to new ideas. We started planning our Community Christmas Lunch 🎄, thinking about how we can make it something really special and accessible for local residents.

We also talked about supporting one of our local young people who wants to establish a Youth Council for the Sidney Sussex Ward - giving young people a stronger voice in what happens in the area and an opportunity to turn their own ideas into action.

Food might be what brings everyone through the door, but it’s the conversations, connections and ideas that make these Community Feasts so worthwhile.

A little bit of kindness goes a very long way 💙

A huge thank you to Nikki Mabbitt for this lovely donation towards our Community Feast tomorrow at Sidney Park. We have noodles, sweets and some brilliant craft kits for the children to enjoy.

Donations like this help us make our Community Feasts about much more than just sharing a meal. They give families a chance to spend time together, get creative, meet other people and enjoy some time together without worrying about the cost.

Everything pictured will be put to very good use tomorrow! 🥰

There are evenings at Sussex Pavilion that really sum up what a community hub should be.

Tonight, young people were getting to grips with music production and instruments as part of our free music sessions with Freestyle Academy, while parents and carers shared food, hot drinks, support and plenty of laughter downstairs. We love how the young people flit between upstairs and coming down for food, then back upstairs for more music.

The leftover food didn’t go to waste either,it headed outside to the young people playing football on the two old bowling greens we let them use, keeping the proper greens protected while giving them somewhere safe to just play.

Throughout the evening, more local children popped in for cold drinks and snacks, and people walking through our little part of the park came through the doors for the first time. They got to see what happens here, grab something to eat and drink, have a chat and, of course, meet our resident superstar Sushi the Axolotl. ❤️

Nothing complicated. No big fanfare. Just an open door, a warm building, food on the table, activities for young people and people looking out for one another.

And when this is the view outside your front door, it’s difficult not to appreciate just how special this little corner of Sidney Sussex Ward is. 🌅

We also think Dylan from Dyl’s Talks may have caught the Sussex Pavilion Community Hub bug tonight 😂 It’s hard not to when you see just how much life there is in this building and how many different people use it in the space of just a few hours.

This is exactly why community spaces matter. ❤️

🍲 SIDNEY SUSSEX COMMUNITY FEAST – THIS SUNDAY! 🍲

This Sunday we’re back at Pitstop in the Park, Sidney Park for our monthly Community Feast. ❤️

📅 Sunday 27th September
⏰ 1pm–4pm
📍 Pitstop in the Park, Sidney Park

The idea is really simple: bring a dish and share the love.

It doesn’t need to be homemade or fancy. Bale it, cook it or buy it. Sweet or savoury, just bring something you’d be happy to add to the community table.

Our Community Feasts are about much more than food. They’re an opportunity to get people together, meet neighbours, have a chat and enjoy a few hours as a community.

No tickets, no complicated sign-ups, just come along, bring something for the table if you can, and join us. 💛
