A reliable, caring and flexible Sessional Personal Assistant is required to provide cover for annual leave and staff sickness, supporting a friendly wheelchair user living independently in Greenock.
This is a relief position with no guaranteed hours, making it ideal for someone looking for flexible work. Shifts will be offered as required to cover planned leave and unexpected staff absences.
The individual is largely independent but requires assistance with a range of day-to-day tasks to maintain their independence and continue living in their own home.
Duties include:
• Providing practical support within the home.
• Assisting with light household tasks.
• Walking the individual's dog.
• Supporting access to the local community where required.
• Preparing light meals or refreshments if needed.

• Evening: Approximately 5.00 pm – 9.30 pm.
Flexibility to work both morning and evening shifts would be advantageous.
We are looking for someone who is:
• Caring, trustworthy and dependable.
• Flexible and able to respond to occasional short-notice cover.
• Comfortable working independently.
• Respectful of privacy and committed to promoting independence.
• A dog lover, as part of the role includes walking the individual's dog.
Previous care experience is welcomed but not essential, as the right attitude, reliability and willingness to learn are equally important.
Essential Requirements
• PVG Scheme membership (or willingness to join).
• Right to work in the UK.
• Two satisfactory references.
This post is funded through Self-directed Support (SDS) Option 1, and the successful applicant will be employed directly by the individual.

Starting a new Personal Assistant role? Good news!

The Scottish Government will pay the cost of Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme applications for eligible social care workers. Applications normally cost £18 for existing members and £59 for individuals joining the PVG scheme.

Eligible Personal Assistants (PAs) in Scotland can now apply for PVG scheme membership free of charge under the Scottish Government's new fee waiver initiative, running from 1 August 2026 to 31 July 2027.

The waiver applies to social care workers starting a new role and also applies to Personal Assistants who are directly employed by someone receiving Self-Directed Support Option 1 and/or funding from Independent Living Fund Scotland (ILF Scotland). This includes children's Personal Assistants.

For Personal Assistants applying for the fee waiver:

Submit your PVG application offline by email
✅️ Include "FSC" in the Position Applied For field
✅️ Include "FSC" in the Personal Employer section
✅️ Include "FSC" in the email subject line
✅️ Leave the payment section blank

This initiative recognises the vital contribution of Scotland's social care workforce and helps remove financial barriers for people entering new roles.
