Mandatory modules compliance

36 members still need to undertake the new safety module. Everyone has had to do this regardless of when the old version was completed.

I have emailed everyone on the list this afternoon. Scouts Scotland has asked me to suspend everyone on that list. Unfortunately I am quite busy for a couple of days and will do this on Thursday evening. There is no more wiggle room.

Any problems, please let me know.

Regional AGM

The West Region 2024/2025 Annual General Meeting will be held in the Glynhill Hotel, Renfrew Road, Paisley at 1400 on August 30

The Regional AGM will review the past year, outline future plans, and carry out essential governance. We encourage all Leaders, adult volunteers, and members of the Scouting community to attend and participate in the development of the Region.

A short presentation will be given after the AGM on the Greenock Explorer Belt to Germany.

Please also note that there is a vacancy on the Regional Trustee Board, details of which have been previously circulated. The Region is also seeking a new treasurer, as the current one will stand down at the AGM. Again, the information on this vacancy has been previously circulated.

The district was well represented at the Ordination of Fr Paul Laverty. It's was a warm and lovely service and we wish Paul all the very best for the future.

On Saturday, volunteers received their 30-day reminders from My Learning. This is a good opportunity to remind volunteers that they should complete the learning soon.

Where to find your data

Our records were last checked on 11 June 2025 and we can see that 36.73% in Greenock and District have completed the learning before their 14 July 2025 deadline. This percentage is generated from the volunteers who were enrolled into the learning at the point of migration in November 2024.

You can use Data Explorer to view the list of the volunteers who still need to complete the learning:

Sign in to scouts.org.uk (using the link in the top right-hand corner of the webpage or at the bottom of the menu on a mobile device).
Open My Membership.
Click on ‘Data explorer’ on the top right-hand corner of the webpage (or at the bottom of the menu on a mobile device).
Within Data explorer, select the ‘Learning compliance’ dashboard from the dropdown menu.
On the Learning compliance dashboard, in the bottom right-hand corner, you case use the ‘New Safety Learning – Outstanding’ query to view the list of volunteers in your team who haven’t updated their learning. You can also use the ‘Expired – Safety’ query to view the list of volunteers in your team who already have expired safety learning.
You can use the ‘Download’ button at the bottom of the page to export the data if useful.
Under ‘Select unit’ you can search for specific Groups and Units if helpful.

A vacancy has arisen on the Regional Trustee Board, which I hope will be filled and approved at the Regional AGM, which is being held on Saturday, 30 August, at the Glynhill Hotel, Paisley, commencing at 14:00. The vacancy has arisen because one of the Trustees is standing down and ideally, the Trustee Board is looking for an 18 to 25 year old adult volunteer.

New GLV for the 5th

I am happy to announce that Audrey Hart has accepted the role of group . Lead volunteer for the 5th Scout Group. Audrey's late father was a previous district commission for Greenock and Audrey and her family have a long association with local scouting. Many thanks for taking on this crucial role.

Retirals from District Roles

Janice McAdam ice.McAdam has stepped down as our Disitrict cub section leader, having been ADC cubs initially. Janice got our district cub scout events restarted after the pandemic and the district is very grateful for her hard work for us. Thank you.

Lloyd Keogh was our Explorer Scout lead having been appointed as DESC. Many thanks to Lloyd for her district work over many years. He especially organised the tough Mark Muir Challenge. I would like to say thanks personally for all of Lloyd s support to me as DC, then DLV. All the best when the new baby.arrives!!

Ashley Rennie has stepped down as GLV of the 5th. She and Mr Ashley (Callum) took on the 5th and ran a fantastic group with vigour. Many thanks from us all.
