Scouting offers challenge and adventure to 400,000 young people and 100,000 adults across the UK. We believe in helping our Members fulfil their potential by working in teams, learning by doing and thinking for themselves. We give people of every background the chance to stretch themselves, learn new skills and make life long friends.

Before the Christmas break, our Beavers worked together to produce an alternative Christmas tree for the tree festival at St Mary's Church. Ours was a tree of helping hands - no lights, no baubles, no tinsel, just a lot of creativity and ideas about how we can help people with our hands.

Their work paid off, as the Beavers tree was chosen as the Mayor's favourite tree, and a little sweet treat awaits them at our next meeting. Well done Beavers!

What a performance that was! Our Cubs put on a mini Christmas show last night to earn their Entertainer badge. There were festive jokes, poems, songs and skits, and a magic trick!

The hall was packed full of the Cubs' families and friends, and we hope everyone had as much fun watching the show as we did planning and performing it.

As part of their Disability Awareness badge, the Beavers had a visit from Nyla (and her owner Shelley!). Nyla is a registered Pets As Therapy dog, and is an assistance dog as well.
All the Beavers had an opportunity to interact with Nyla, and Akela got sat on!
We are really grateful to Shelley and Nyla for making the trip on such a cold and wet evening.

Our Beavers earned their Animal Friend badge tonight. They all had great fun completing a shopping task for various pets, feeding the fish, and having cuddles with guinea pigs!
Big thank you to Nick at Pets UK Pets at Home in Great Yarmouth for being an amazing host.

Our Cubs meeting fell on Armistice Day this week. We started with a Remembrance quiz so the Cubs could earn their "battlefield kit". The hall then became our battlefield, where the Cubs encountered various "attacks", and if they didn't have the right bit of kit, they fell where they stood. Only one of the 24 Cubs made it across the battlefield.

We used this exercise to highlight the importance of remembering the fallen, and after creating our own "hand-made" poppy display, we closed our meeting with the Last Post while the Cubs stood respectfully in silence.

Moments like these remind our Leaders why their time and effort matters, and make for a very proud Akela.

Tonight, as part of their World Challenge badge, the Beavers marked Bhai Dooj (the 5th day of the Diwali celebrations) by making lanterns for their own festival of lights!

The Beavers welcomed a new (temporary) member tonight, and got to see nature close up, when a tiny common shrew decided to sneak into the hall! Our brave parent helper gently rescued it, and it was taken out to the field to be released.

The rain stayed away today, so there was nothing to spoil the fun at the District Beavers Activity Day at Eaton Vale. With the cave bus, crate stacking, canoeing and obstacle course on the schedule, there was lots to challenge our Beavers. It was lovely to see them helping and supporting each other during the activities, and being great ambassadors for 1st Martham. Big thanks to Amanda for organising the event, and to Shauna for joining in the fun with us.
