Archaeology Scotland leads on Aim 4 of Scotland’s Archaeology Strategy: Encouraging Greater Engagement. Our work focuses on breaking down barriers to participation by working alongside individuals and communities to understand their needs and interests. We use Scotland’s archaeology as a powerful and inclusive tool for place-based learning with people of all ages from underserved communities. Our activities aim to build skills, curiosity and confidence, while connecting people to each other, their place and the past.
This talk will share some case studies - employability and wellbeing programmes, digital skills projects with refugees and asylum seekers, and creative archaeology projects with young people with additional support needs. Reflecting on successes, opportunities and the challenges encountered along the way.
