We recently said our final farewells to a former Pastures Committee member, Vernon Shaw, who died aged 99 on 29th January 2025; a service to celebrate Vernon's life took place at the Grimsby Crematorium on Wednesday 26th February. His son, Mike, said "Dad was proudly a long-serving member of The Pastures Committee and the Market sub-committee throughout the 1970’s, 1980’s & early 90’s. As a resident within the Borough, dad remained an Enrolled Freeman right up to his recent death". Mike himself acted as Minute Clerk to the Committee during his time at Grange & Wintringham, Solicitors. Photograph taken from Grimsby Evening Telegraph and so is not the best quality.

I was very pleased to be invited to attend The Bradley Youth Festival today in order to present the Edmund T Ellis Shield for Excellence. The shield was donated to the Festival by the Great Grimsby Guild of Freemen in memory of Ted who was the Founder Master and one-time Chairman of the Pastures Committee. The winner this year was Liv Pearson who had entered a number of classes scoring very highly in each. Also pictured are some winners from previous years.
