Opening hours; Thursday, Friday and Saturday 10am - 4pm This is our history and our heritage, and your support keeps the Museum running

Heritage is crucial to Grantham as it binds us together by offering a fascinating collective sense of history, which will shape our aspirations for the town's future. The Grantham Museum acts as a guardian to this heritage and a focal point for the community. The Museum reopened in 2012, with the Grantham Community Heritage Association, a charity organisation run by the local community, taking the

responsibility of keeping this vital local resource alive. By joining and supporting the Museum project, you can tangibly contribute to the improvement of the Museum.

If you've visited Grantham Museum recently, you may have noticed an exciting new project taking shape!

We have been kindly donated a model railway replica of Grantham Station, and we're looking for volunteers with an interest in model railways, restoration, electronics, scenery building, or local railway history to help bring this fantastic exhibit back to life.

Whether you're an experienced modeller or simply passionate about preserving local heritage, we'd love to hear from you.

To get the project underway, we're holding an informal meeting at Grantham Museum on Friday 18 June at 2:00pm to discuss ideas, share skills, and formulate a plan for the restoration.

If you'd like to get involved, please come along and join us!

On the final day of , Meet our Chair, who is passionate about supporting Grantham Museum and preserving the stories that make our town unique.

When asked why she volunteers, she said:

"I volunteer at Grantham Museum to keep the town's history alive. I enjoy meeting new people of all ages. We have so many laughs and make friends along the way."

This perfectly captures what volunteering is all about – helping to preserve our heritage while building connections within the community. Whether welcoming visitors, supporting events, or working behind the scenes, our volunteers play a vital role in everything we do.

Thank you to our Chair for her leadership, dedication, and enthusiasm, and to all our wonderful volunteers who help make Grantham Museum such a special place.

, and we're celebrating Bailie, one of our student volunteers at Grantham Museum.

Supporting students and young people to gain experience in the heritage sector is an important part of what we do. Through volunteering, students can develop practical skills in research, collections, exhibitions, and visitor engagement while exploring potential careers in museums and heritage.

Bailie has contributed to a range of projects, including exhibition development, creating a new museum timeline, and supporting our Late Medieval Grantham Project. Their enthusiasm, curiosity, and commitment have helped bring local history to life for our visitors.

We're proud to support the next generation of heritage professionals and grateful to volunteers like Bailie for the time, energy, and fresh perspectives they bring to the museum.

Meet Chloe, one of our dedicated Trustees at Grantham Museum.

As a Trustee, Chloe helps support the Museum's vision, ensuring that we continue to preserve and share the stories of Grantham and the surrounding area for future generations.

Here is what Chloe said when we asked about why she volunteers as a Trustee for us:

We are incredibly grateful for Chloe's commitment, enthusiasm, and support. Our Trustees work tirelessly behind the scenes, helping to guide the Museum and champion the work we do.

Thank you, Chloe, and thank you to all our volunteers who make such a difference.

Update on Gordon's Brick...

Following our post yesterday about volunteer Gordon's mystery brick, we have an update!

After taking the brick to Grantham Library (Lincolnshire Libraries), the wonderful team there kindly helped investigate the name stamped on the front and uncovered some fascinating information.

A huge thank you to the staff at Grantham Library for their time, expertise, and enthusiasm in helping us piece together the story behind this intriguing find.

It's amazing how a simple brick discovered in a garden can open a window into local history and connect us with people and industries from the past.

One of the joys of volunteering at the Museum is never knowing what might turn up next!

Our volunteer Gordon recently brought in a brick he had discovered in his garden. What caught his eye was the name stamped on the front, and naturally he wanted to find out more about its history.

Bricks can tell fascinating stories about local industries, builders, and brickworks that may have long since disappeared. A simple find from the garden could provide a valuable link to our area's past.

We're now investigating the name and seeing what we can uncover. Do you recognise it, or know anything about the brickmaker? We'd love to hear from you in the comments.

It just goes to show that local history can be hiding right beneath our feet!
