Wilsford Village Hall and Parish Council committee members presented a cheque to Simon Hallam of the Veterans Support Service at their regular Big Breakfast this morning, Sunday 18 January.
Back in May the community enjoyed a fabulous
1940s VE and VJ Day commemorative celebration which raised £700, a cheque for which was presented to the worthwhile charity today.
Mr Hallam, a former Army Sergeant who left the forces in 2001, said: “The charity is run by those often with lived experience of mental health challenges resulting from PTSD and general anxiety disorder. The value £700 will bring this charity is so very practical and worthwhile. It can help to buy shopping, pay electricity bills, take people to appointments and so much more - every penny goes to support the veterans.”
Lincolnshire is home to the second greatest concentration of military veterans in the country; 16% of the county’s population has a link to the military, with Lincs being home to some 57,000 veterans.
The Village Hall, Parish Council, and other volunteers rallied together to put on a night to remember. Here are few of the fabulous memories: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1L5dtTUofJ/?mibextid=wwXIfr
