Christmas at Belton is back this November, with even more festive magic for families to enjoy together! ✨

Brand new lights will include an enchanting transformation of the lake into a reflection of the night sky with a giant half-moon rising from the water and dozens of twinkling star lights floating around it. Winter nature at Belton will be a special theme this year with a huge sparkling deer, enormous, illuminated feathers, and intricate willow sculptures of animals. And it’s all aboard for a charming new projection on the house which follows a Christmas train!

Plus, with a festive fairground, an appearance from Father Christmas, and tasty treats to warm and delight you, it's the ideal way to celebrate and share this special time together. And now that it's dog-friendly, all the family can join in!

A Christmas Carol is selling out quickly 🕯️

Tickets for these very special candlelit performances are flying like one of Dickens' ghosts!

Taking place in the stunning setting of the house on Friday 18 and Saturday 19 December, this Christmas classic will be brought to life in a one-man show by Behind the Door Productions. The highly immersive and atmospheric production captures the joy, humour and darkness of this true festive classic, told as Dickens did to friends and family at Christmas time.

110 years ago, Belton Estate looked like this 👀

When WW1 was announced, Earl Brownlow quickly offered his land to house thousands of soldiers, training for Kitchener's New Army and the Machine Gun Corps. From September 1914, bell tents covered the landscape and by April 1915, a small town had been built for around 20,000 recruits; including a military base hospital, churches, YMCA huts, a cinema and its own railway line.

On Sunday 8 November, we'll be commemorating those who trained here and everyone else who served and sacrificed in the war on a special Act of Remembrance Walk. This 8km walk will take in a short tour of the WW1 Machine Gun site, the Commonwealth War Graves and remembrance service at Londonthorpe Church, and Bellmount Tower where you can learn about its role in the war and find out about the original home of the RAF Regiment.

Open now: a brand new exhibition of historic photography albums, on display for the first time! 📷

Crafting Memory: Marian's Photograph Albums offers a rare opportunity to see original photographs and albums created and compiled by by Marian Alford, here at Belton in the 1860s.

Ranging from luxurious studio portraiture and encounters with royals to playful scenes with family and friends, they offer personal insights into a 19th-century home and the personal relationships, stories and artistic interests which shaped Marian and her family’s lives. Film, animation and sound have all been used to bring the albums to life and photographs and details are digitally projected onto the walls and ceiling of the exhibition space.

At special crafting stations, you can take inspiration from the unique shapes Marian uses in her albums to create your own miniature versions. You're also invited to contribute to a large-scale album installation, thinking about which of the photos on your phone mean the most to you and how you would display them in a physical format.

The exhibition is kindly supported by CEWE as part of their partnership with the National Trust, supporting our work to catalogue and curate the photography collections in our care. When visiting Crafting Memory, you can claim five free photo prints from a CEWE Photostation at the end of the exhibition, enabling you to follow in Marian’s footsteps and start creating albums at home.

Make a Christmas wreath with us using Belton Estate foliage! 🎀

The perfect way to get in the festive spirit, join in with a workshop on Friday 4 or Tuesday 8 December, creating your own bespoke Christmas Wreath to decorate your home or gift to a loved one.

With expert guidance, a wide selection of greenery from Belton's gardens, and some festive cheer with other like-minded people, these workshops will be taking place in the atmospheric Old School Hall in Belton village.
