Throwback to every single time a person told me "you should just know!" when they didn't clarify what they wanted me to know.
And yeah, sure, call it a communication deficit on my part, rather than poor communication at their end. It's easier to blame people when they're outnumbered, after all.

[Two illustrations of stick-figures in conversation.
Pic 1 reads "dropping hints to most people", with a figure 'speaking' the image of a triangle whilst thinking of a square, and another figure thinking of a square.
Pic 2 reads "dropping hints to autistic people", with a figure 'speaking' the image of a triangle whilst thinking of a square, but the other figure is thinking of the triangle.

Text reads: "It is not β€œpolite” to drop hints to autistic people, to avoid saying what you mean. It just sets us up for failure, and makes it even more embarrassing when we misunderstand you. If you want to be polite, be specific in a diplomatic way."]

Swimming lessons are an important part of autism safety. πŸ’¦πŸ›Ÿ

Many children and adults with autism are drawn to water, and wandering can become dangerous very quickly. Pools, ponds, lakes, creeks, canals, fountains, retention basins, and nearby bodies of water should always be checked immediately if someone is missing.

Water safety should include layers of protection: close supervision, barriers and locks, alarms, swim instruction, emergency planning, and making sure caregivers, neighbors, and first responders know to search water first.

For families with autism, swim lessons should be individualized and may need to include practice with clothes and shoes on, since emergencies do not always happen during swim time.

BEHAVIOR IS COMMUNICATION.
What looks like "acting out" may be a need, fear, pain, or overwhelm.

Every person deserves someone willing to look deeper.

This is absolutely disgusting, thieves that do such crimes have absolutely no morals whatsoever.

Stealing from a charity that provides outdoor riding, driving and equine contact for the disabled.

Just how low can our rural criminals really go.

Our challenge to those that were either involved or those that may have some influence over them is to return it all, more so the Bennington Fun Bug carriage, saddles and bridles.

This is an uninsured loss to a struggling small charity. DO the right thing.

Autism is part of who someone is β€” but it is never the full picture. Every child, teen, and adult deserves to be seen for their strengths, personality, gifts, needs, humor, intelligence, creativity, and potential.

Look beyond the label. See the person.
