At tonight’s meeting we were delighted to welcome our guest speakers, Ross and Alyson Jamieson from the well-known local Linlithgow Distillery, creators of the popular LinGin range of spirits.
Ross and Alyson entertained members with the story of how their business began. It all started with a boozy evening in the hot tub, enjoying a gin, when one of them asked, “We could make our own, couldn’t we?” That simple idea quickly grew into a kitchen micro-distillery, complete with plenty of experimental recipes. Before long they had outgrown the kitchen, moving first into a small industrial unit and then into their current, larger distillery with a dedicated visitor experience. Members thoroughly enjoyed hearing their entrepreneurial journey, followed by a tasting session featuring some of their award-winning spirits.
President Stuart then highlighted the outstanding contribution one of our own members has made to the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) programme. Five years ago, our club was finding it increasingly difficult to engage local schools in identifying pupils to attend RYLA. Having benefited from the programme himself, Alisdair Edmonds volunteered to rebuild those relationships.
Since then, Alisdair has transformed our club’s links with RYLA and has gone on to make a significant impact at District level, taking on a key role in organising the annual event. His dedication has helped ensure that many more young people have the opportunity to benefit from this life-changing experience.
In recognition of his exceptional service, Alisdair was presented with a Paul Harris Fellow Award, one of the highest honours in Rotary International.
Congratulations, Alisdair, and thank you for everything you do. Please just keep doing what you do!
