This page is owned and administered by the founder members of Save Grange Lido (SGL), a community group formed in 2011. This group campaigns to restore Grange Lido as a public swimming pool as close as possible to its original form, with some adjustments due to changing tidal patterns, new health and safety regulations etc. SGL collected signatures, presented a petition to the District Council, ma
de contacts with architects and other specialists, produced a detailed business plan and engaged the Council and wider community in working towards this goal. A new organisation Save Grange Lido CBS (SGLCBS) formed in 2019, and it is SGLCBS which is currently in discussion with Westmoreland and Furness Council about taking the pool restoration forward, though at the time of writing (October 2024) no formal agreement has been signed. According to its website, SGLCBS hopes to sign a lease with the council shortly, then to raise the required £4M - £5M required to remove the infill from the pool basin and make alterations to create a number of smaller pools. We believe that it is now working with a modified business plan, but we have not seen it. Everyone is welcome to share their thoughts and views about the Lido project here. Questions about SGLCBS's fundraising targets, timescales, business plan, pool design etc can be addressed directly to it. It has a breathtaking location on the edge of the Lake District National Park looking over the expanse of Morecambe Bay. It is the only surviving seaside Lido in the North of England. Many thanks, SGL
