National Demonstration to
SAVE SEND LEGAL RIGHTS!

Date coming soon

ANNOUNCEMENT: Save SEND legal rights demonstration

The Government’s new Schools White Paper proposes changes that will weaken vital legal rights for children and young people with SEND.

So we are bringing families and supporters together to send a very clear message:

Do not take away our children’s legal right to an education that meets their needs

Regional events will take place across the country so everyone can be a part of this demonstration.

📍 London
🗺 Regional events across England
📅 Date to be confirmed

This is about ensuring every child keeps their legal right to an education that meets their individual needs. The SEND crisis will not be solved by removing rights - it will be solved by properly implementing and enforcing the existing law.

The Hidden Costs of SEND

Based on multi-authority Freedom of Information responses (2025–26), we estimate that £850 million to £1.49 billion per year is being spent not on children’s provision — but on managing, defending and administrating the SEND system.

That includes:
• EHCP casework & backlog admin
• SEND tribunal & judicial review defence
• Complaints, mediation & governance panels
• Consultants, transformation programmes & digital systems
• Strategic oversight layers

This isn’t speculative.
It’s drawn from disclosed tribunal spend, legal budgets, staffing structures and programme costs across local authorities.

Close to £1bn per year is being spent on preventing provision.
Imagine if that was spent on support instead?

It has now been 4 weeks since the old and dangerous wooden structures were removed from the play area next to our venue at Seafield House.

As basic as this play area was - it was well used by local children because:

✅ It is a fairly safe location
🏠 It is overlooked by the homes of local families
🚗 It is in a cul-de-sac (reducing the risk of road danger)
☀️ It serves a purpose throughout school holidays
💜 TEENTALK & HARBOURSIDE YOUTH CLUB use it for events and holiday activities

We will be contacting the relevant people today for an update, and we will keep the pressure on for this to be completed before the Easter holidays so that we are able to run our usual Easter celebration holiday activities for our local families and so that local children have their play area back!
