Last night, some of the cadets were lucky enough to attend The Band of His Majesty’s Royal Marines Collingwood concert at Fareham Live.

2026 is being called the new 2016…but how about 1916!

As we continue our journey through 125 years of history, today we look back over a century to a remarkable and often forgotten chapter - the RMLI Girls Cadets on parade on Plymouth Hoe during the First World War era.

At a time when the nation was fully mobilised for war, the Royal Marines Light Infantry (RMLI) supported the formation of cadet units for girls in the Plymouth area. These pioneering young women drilled, paraded and trained in uniform on the Hoe, proudly mirroring the discipline and standards of their Royal Marines counterparts. Their presence was not only symbolic of national service, but also one of the earliest examples of structured female participation in uniformed youth organisations connected to the VCC.

The inclusion of the RMLI Girls Cadets within the RMVCC marked a progressive and historic step - long before many other national youth organisations recognised similar roles for girls.

More than 100 years later, as we celebrate VCC125, we proudly honour those trailblazers whose parades on Plymouth Hoe helped shape the inclusive and enduring Corps we know today.

Some traditions don’t just make history — they are history.

Going to be a busy year!

Going to be a busy year!

As we prepare to mark 125 years of the Volunteer Cadet Corps, we are proud to unveil our official VCC125 campaign logo.

Inspired by the core elements of our historic crest, the new design honours our rich heritage while reflecting the VCC’s continued evolution and forward vision. It represents the generations of cadets and volunteers who have shaped the VCC since 1901 - and those who will carry it into the future.

The logo was created through collaboration between the Commander VCC, Deputy Commander VCC and local creative specialists Mindworks Marketing, whose support helped bring our anniversary vision to life.

Deputy Commander VCC, Maj (VCC) Louis Colpitts, said:
“Our crest represents generations of dedication, discipline and service. The VCC125 campaign logo preserves that identity while signalling our ambition to remain relevant, resilient and inspiring for future cadets. It is both a tribute to our history and a statement of progress.”

The VCC125 logo will feature across all anniversary events, publications, outreach, social media and ceremonial occasions throughout the year, acting as a unifying symbol of celebration, remembrance and forward vision.

Here’s to 125 years of tradition, service and progress. 💫
