🎄 Remember, remember the 5th of December! 🎄

We know, we know… it's still October! 😂 But our co-founders, Heather and Clare, are absolutely Christmas mad and already getting ridiculously excited about our very first Community Christmas Celebration! 🎅🎁

Emma, on the other hand, takes a little longer to warm up to the festive season and keeps reminding us that IT'S STILL OCTOBER! 🙄

That hasn't stopped Heather and Clare from starting to sing Christmas songs at her already though… and that started LAST WEEK! 🎶 We're not entirely sure Emma is ready for another six weeks of this, but we're having a wonderful time! 😂

Anyway, whether you're already counting down the sleeps until Christmas or firmly in Emma's camp, we'd love you to join us at our event!

There'll be a Christmas raffle, bric-a-brac stall, plenty of cake, free refreshments and hopefully some festive entertainment too!

❤️ Everyone is welcome, including our wonderful volunteers, service users, supporters, friends and the wider community. It's completely free to attend!

🎁 We're also collecting donations of raffle prizes and good-quality bric-a-brac, so please get in touch if you'd like to contribute.

🎂🎉 A little birthday celebration at our CHAT Group today!

There was an extra reason to smile at today's CHAT Group as we celebrated one of our lovely attendees' birthdays! 🥳

Everyone joined in with a rendition of Happy Birthday, followed by a well-deserved slice of birthday cake! 🍰☕

It's these lovely little moments that make our groups so special - bringing people together, sharing laughter and making memories.

What a lovely morning at InfoFest! 🧡

We've had such a wonderful time at today's Gosport Older Persons Forum InfoFest, catching up with so many familiar faces and meeting lots of new ones too!

It was particularly lovely to see so many of our friends and supporters from across the local community and voluntary sector. Everyone was genuinely delighted to hear how well Gosport Community Support is doing, including news of some recent funding successes (more on that very soon!).

What really meant a lot to us was hearing just how much people appreciate that we've been able to keep these much-needed services going. From fellow professionals to members of the public, the encouragement and support we received today was quite overwhelming.

We also had some great conversations with people interested in accessing our services, as well as others keen to find out more about volunteering with us.

A huge thank you to Gosport Older Persons Forum for organising the event, and to everyone who stopped by our stand for a chat.

Days like today remind us just how fortunate we are to be part of such a supportive community - and why we're so determined to keep doing what we do.

A fabulous morning all round! 🧡

Our lovely friends at Stronger Together Community CIC have some fantastic FREE badminton sessions coming up! 🏸

Open to Armed Forces veterans and anyone aged 50+, these sessions are a great opportunity to get moving, meet new people and have a bit of fun!

No experience needed, and you certainly don't need to be the next badminton champion! 😄

Sessions start next Tuesday, 20th October, at Gosport Leisure Centre.

There was a wonderful buzz at Monday Club yesterday! 📸

One of our regular attendees brought along something a little different to share with the group - a selection of photographs from his days of entering photography competitions.

Among them were some fascinating polarised microscopic photographs of everyday items, which had everyone trying to guess what they were looking at! There was plenty of discussion, lots of guesses and a really lovely atmosphere as everyone got involved.

It's always wonderful when our members share their hobbies, interests and experiences with each other. You never quite know what you'll learn or discover at Monday Club!

We also had a lovely visit from George at Umbra Lettings, who is part of a networking group that Clare attends. George is keen to support GCS with some fundraising (more news on that soon!) and wanted to come along to see first-hand some of what we do.

As someone with a keen interest in history, particularly the Second World War, he also enjoyed chatting with some of our members and hearing their memories of wartime.

It was a really enjoyable morning, full of interesting conversations, shared memories and plenty of laughter.

Sometimes it's the simplest things that bring people together - and that's what Monday Club is all about 🧡

“It gives me great joy knowing I have a positive impact on someone else’s life.”

That's what one of our volunteer befrienders told us when we recently asked our volunteers what they get out of volunteering with Gosport Community Support.

And it's a lovely reminder that befriending isn't just about making a difference to someone else's life. It can be incredibly rewarding for the volunteer too.

🧡 Right now, we have people across Gosport and Lee-on-the-Solent waiting for a volunteer befriender. 🧡

People who would love nothing more than a friendly face, a cup of tea and someone to have a good chat with.

Could you spare just an hour a week?

You don't need any special skills or previous experience. Just kindness, reliability and a willingness to spend time getting to know someone.

We'll provide training, guidance and ongoing support, and carefully match you with someone we think you'll get along with.

For someone who spends much of their time alone, your visit could be the highlight of their week. And, as our volunteers tell us, you might be surprised by just how much you enjoy it yourself.

An hour of your time could make two people's weeks better.

⭐ Could you help us turn something lovely into something life-changing? ⭐

We're on the hunt for some fabulous prizes, and we're hoping our wonderful community might be able to help!

On Monday 9th November, Gosport Community Support is holding a small Charity Golf Day, alongside an online auction that will open a week beforehand, meaning anyone can bid, whether they're playing golf or not!

We're looking for donations of prizes that people would love to bid on. Perhaps you own a business, work somewhere that could help, or know someone who might be willing to contribute?

We're thinking...

⛳ Hotel stays or spa experiences
⛳ Restaurant vouchers or afternoon teas
⛳ Experience days or days out
⛳ Signed memorabilia or something a little unusual
⛳ Or anything else that might make a fantastic auction prize!

We're also holding a Christmas raffle on 5th December, so smaller prizes, gifts and vouchers would be just as gratefully received.

Why does this matter so much to us?

When the community project we'd been part of came to an end earlier this year, we couldn't bear the thought of the people who relied on it being left without support.

So we started Gosport Community Support.

We've been working unpaid to keep our befriending, advocacy and social activities running, supported by an incredible team of volunteers who give their time to help people who might otherwise feel forgotten.

Every prize donated helps us raise the funds we need to keep being there for people in Gosport who are lonely, isolated, vulnerable or simply need someone in their corner.

You don't need to donate money to make a difference. Sometimes a voucher, a gift or a little generosity can go an awfully long way.
