Huge congratulations to Sophie Smith from Gosport on achieving the prestigious Super Scout Award! 🎉

This incredible honour recognises completing all four of Scouting’s top awards. A true testament to Sophie’s dedication, resilience, and adventurous spirit.

As part of her journey, Sophie has taken on some amazing challenges:
🌍 Completed her Explorer Belt in Estonia, embracing new cultures and experiences

🌱 Led a Scouts of the World Award project focused on “Life on Land and Water,” helping to educate others about the impact of plastic waste

🏕️ Undertook her Gold Duke of Edinburgh expedition in the rugged landscapes of New Galloway, Scotland

🧶 For her King’s Scout Award, she learned to knit and created hats and baby clothing for others

Each of these achievements represents hard work, commitment, and a desire to make a positive difference, values at the very heart of Scouting.

Well done Sophie, an inspiring accomplishment and something to be incredibly proud of! 👏

Did you know, on this day.....in 1932, there was a poignant scene at Ann's Hill Cemetery. Edward Myers, a former member of our group, was laid to rest. Although not reported in this article from the Hampshire Telegraph, another publication reported the cause of death to have been blood poisoning from a puncture wound to his foot. (We are unable to share the other publication due to permissions.) His troop, Rover Skipper Barrett (4th Rovers) and District Scoutmaster Oliver were amongst those in attendance...in 1938, Group Scoutmaster Oliver (yes, the same one named District Scoutmaster in the article published six years previously), was selected by the County Scout Council to lead Hampshire Scouts's contingent at the St George's Day Parade at St George's Chapel, Windsor to be held two days later. The Parade includes being reviewed by King George VI. This article was also published in the Hampshire Telegraph.
If anyone knows anything about the mentioned former Scouts in this post, we'd love to hear from you. Bagheera has visited the cemetery with information from Gosport Borough Council about where Edward Myers was interred, but was unable to find his resting place.
