For Linda, one of our Catering Assistants, getting to know patients and their families is one of the things she loves most about her role. 🥰

She said: "They know who I am because I see them every day. We've got that little bond and rapport, and it's absolutely lovely. You get to know their families too."

Each day, Linda heads onto the ward to chat with patients about what they'd like to eat. Together with the rest of our Catering Team, she takes the time to find out what each person enjoys and how best to support them.

Linda says some families have mentioned her and her colleague Donna in funeral tributes, something that means a great deal to them both.

Sally, one of our Pets As Therapy dogs, was treated like a VIP when she visited our Children and Young Adults Service this week! 🥰🐾

We couldn’t let pass without sharing some of the fun from Sally’s visit, where some of our children and young adults enjoyed doggy songs, stories and even baked homemade treats especially for her. 🦴

And judging by how quickly the treats disappeared, we think they got Sally’s paw of approval! 😂

Sally was also presented with her very own special bandanas to wear on future visits. Just look at her! 🥹

A huge thank you to Sally’s owner, Cath, for giving her time to bring Sally in and make visits like this possible. 💙

A huge good luck to Charles McManus who has just kicked off his third challenge event in support of St Oswald’s Hospice. 💙

Over the next 48 hours, Charles will complete 470 laps around the perimeter of St. James' Park - home of Newcastle United - in memory of his dad, David, who died aged 47 and spent his final days at the hospice back in 2017.

As he seeks to complete this 200 mile challenge, Charles reflects:

“The support from everyone at St Oswald’s Hospice back then made the situation for my dad and the rest of the family as good as it could have been. I am raising money so that other families can have access to the same support as we did.”

We're walking St Oswald's Way on September 27th and there's still time for you to join us. 🌄

Waves, laughter and lots of happy memories! 🏄💙

Our latest Sibz Day saw brothers and sisters of children and young adults supported by our Children and Young Adults Service enjoy a fantastic day at South Shields beach.

These special days are all about having fun, trying new things and spending time with others in a relaxed and supportive environment.

As one parent told us:

"Your kindness not only brought smiles and joy, but also reminded our family that we are supported by people who genuinely care." 🥰

Thank you to everyone who helped make the day so special - we're already looking forward to the next Sibz adventure! 🙌

Care at St Oswald’s Hospice is always free for those who need it. However, it currently costs around £12 million each year to provide the wide range of services the hospice offers. Around half of this amount must be raised through charitable donations, meaning every single contribution from the community makes a real difference. 💙

How do delicious surplus pastries turn into more than £4,000 for hospice care? With help from our friends at Pink Lane Bakery! 😀🙌🥐

The team at Pink Lane Bakery regularly donate bakes and other treats for us to sell in support of the hospice. Safe to say, our staff, volunteers and visitors always look forward to a delivery! 😋

Buying a pastry means no food goes to waste, everyone gets a delicious treat, and we raise some serious ‘dough’ for those who need us most. 💙

A huge thank you everyone at Pink Lane! Some of the lovely people behind the bakes are pictured here with our Catering Manager, Ryan (you’ll spot him in the green sweatshirt!). Thank you for keeping our hospice family so well-fed and being such a brilliant part of our local community. You really are proper gems! 🥰
