Are you up for fun, adventure, incredible experiences and making new friends? Are you looking for something to give you the edge in life? Then welcome to the Air Cadet Organisation (ACO). Better known as the 'Air Cadets', 1114 (Gosforth) Squadron is part of a UK-wide cadet force with more than 40,000 members aged between 12 and 20 years. We're sponsored by the Royal Air Force and can give you hand

s-on experience of activities and courses that will challenge and develop your skills to help you succeed in whatever you want to do. Our aims are to:

Promote and encourage a practical interest in aviation and the Royal Air Force among young people;
Provide training which will be useful in the Services and civilian life;
Foster the spirit of adventure and develop qualities of leadership and good citizenship. And there's one more important thing - it's a lot of fun!

✨Wing Silver Leadership✨
This past weekend, 45 cadets from across Durham Northumberland Wing travelled HERE, Wing HQ, to participate in a Silver Leadership course!
This particular course requires cadets to partake in more advanced leadership session which focuses on good followership, group dynamics, personality types, and afterwards a self reflection exercise.
We had 4 cadets partake in this course; Sergeant Monaghan, Sergeant Clare, Corporal Ruddick, and Corporal Bolam, all of which passed with flying colours!

✨DofE and Badges ✨

Tonight, Flight Sergeant Brown and Cadet Fernandes were both awarded their silver Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) badges.

DofE is an expedition based voluntary scheme which gives young people the opportunity to make amazing memories by completing an expedition (ranging in duration according to level), voluntary work, physical development, and skills development.

Cadet Hiden was also awarded the Leadership Classification badge after recently completing the exams!

Huge congratulations to everyone and great to see the development of cadets on the squadron!👏

✨February recap✨
Over the course of February, cadets participated in several activities both on parade nights, such as our debate night , and over weekends, such as the presentation course at

Several badges were also achieved such as 21 blue space badges (on order), several classification badges, and even a promotion!

Overall a very successful month and congratulations to everyone who participated in activities, well done!

✨ Classification badges✨

On Monday night, both Corporal Bolam and Sergeant Monaghan were awarded their master and senior classification badges respectively.

Exams have been going on during parade nights since the new year and it's great to see the first of those being completed and the badges awarded!

Very well done both Corporal and Sergeant, well deserved 👏

✨Promotion✨

Last night, Corporal Robinson got promoted to the rank of Sergeant!

Sergeant Robinson has been an integral part of both the squadron and the NCO team over the last few years and thoroughly deserves this promotion.

Sergeant Robinson is known as 'chuck up chunky' on squadron as after he completed his air experience flying he threw up once out of the aircraft. It happens to the best of us!✈️

Congratulations Sergeant Robinson, great effort and very well deserved 👏👏

On Sunday 2nd February, cadets and staff from 1114 squadron were invited to take part in the church service and parade at St George's Church in Jesmond to mark the 84th ATC Sunday.

ATC Sunday falls on the Sunday nearest to the 5th February, which is when the organisation in its current form was established in 1941.

We were delighted by the turn out and representation for the organisation and were thrilled to be joined by cadets from other squadrons too.

✨January Recap!✨
Over the course of January, cadets from 1114 Gosforth squadron participated in many activities from archery to first aid.

There were also 10 badges given out across the month as shown on the last slide. Well done everyone who gained badges and keep it up 👏

1114 sqn took to the Air today as we were hosted by 645VGS at RAF Topcliffe in North Yorkshire. It was a cold day but all cadets flew and enjoyed the visit immensely.

✨Shooting and Archery✨
On Thursday night our cadets had the opportunity to be trained on one of our rifles, the L144!
For those already trained on the rifle, it was a case of some competitive archery all night.
Weapons handling tests will continue over the next week until all cadets are trained, well done those who have passed 👏

✨ SUCCESSFUL OPEN EVENING✨
On Monday 13th January we hosted our first open evening of 2025. The cadets all pulled together and put on many different stalls, ranging in activities to give new cadets a taste of life here at 1114!

Great effort to everyone who took part and we look forward to seeing the new cadets in the coming weeks!

This is your chance to come along and speak to staff members and cadets about the vast opportunities and activities we offer, from flying to first aid. You'll also be able to go round our stalls and see in detail the different aspects of being a cadet!

1114 sqn returned to the skies today with a trip to RAF Leeming. Cpl Robinson, Sgt Clare and Cpl Hand (in order of appearance) took control of a Grob Tutor on their first ever, and well deserved, AEF flight.

The squadron is very proud to have won the trophy for the Newcastle & Gateshead RAFA Wings Appeal 2024. This is the second year in a row, narrowly beating RAF Boulmer who won it 2 years in a row prior to us.

Today marks 106 years since the guns fell silent in the first world war, a war to end all wars; however human history has been set to continually repeat itself to this day, and war still ravages the world and many soldiers and innocent civilians have been caught up in it. Today we remember those that gave their today so as to give us our tomorrow.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Today, at Gosforth Central Park, 1114(Gosforth)Sqn and 2510(West Denton)Sqn paid their respects to the fallen of 2 world wars as well as many other conflicts since. Lest we forget.
