This morning 31st October the Town Council held its Garden of Remembrance service at the war memorial in the centre of town. The memorial commemorates the residents of Gorseinon who gave their lives in the First World War and the Second World War.

The service brought together civic representatives, veterans, cadets and members of the public to remember and pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of our country.

We will remember them.

There will be more Remembrance events on Sunday 8th November. Please see first photo for details

Thanks to Weststreet Gymnastics for allowing us to place the equipment on their building.

What a privilege it was to be invited down to Loughor Inshore Rescue yesterday evening! Town councillors were joined by Councillors - Andrew Stevens, Jan Curtice & Nicola Matthews for a tour of the boat house and presentation on the fantastic work they have been doing there since 1969.
They are an independent lifeboat crew who are completely reliant on fundraising and donations yet are on call 24hrs a day 365 days of the year.
We were also joined by Melanie James -Heartbeat Trust UK and Gower & Llwchwr Estuary Lions Club who presented the crew with a critical bleed kit
Please go and give the lifeboat crew a like and a follow on their tag above. More information on donations and the work they do in the community can be found at www.loughorlifeboat.org

Arrangements for a second drop-in event in Gorseinon have been confirmed as part our ongoing public engagement over Gorseinon Hospital’s future role.

The session will take place in St Catherine’s Church next Thursday, 15th October, from 1pm to 6pm, and is open to all. It follows drop-in sessions held during September in Gorseinon and in Swansea city centre.

Meanwhile, a second online Q&A event will be held on Monday, October 12th, from 6pm-7.30pm. You can book your place by emailing [email protected] or by calling 01639 683355.

Please note there is no need to book for the drop-in session at St Catherine’s Church.

While we are proposing to permanently transfer 30 inpatient beds from Gorseinon to Singleton, there will be no overall loss of beds. Only the location would change.

These beds are used by patients from across the Swansea Council area, not just Gorseinon, and occasionally by Neath Port Talbot residents too.

The temporary transfer was prompted by concerns raised by staff, patients, and families.

Moving the beds to Singleton has provided a safer clinical environment, with improved access to senior nursing support and 24/7 medical cover.

The health board is unequivocal about the positive future of Gorseinon Hospital. It is already a vibrant community healthcare hub with a wide range of services.

It is our firm intention to build on that with expanded specialist, community, nursing, and therapy services.

This is in line with Community by Design, the Welsh Government strategy which prioritises the delivery of care closer to home.

That is why we are engaging with the public not only about the transfer of beds but about what services they would like to see at Gorseinon.

For more information about this public engagement, including the engagement document in different accessible formats, as well as different ways to submit your views, please follow this link to our website: https://sbuhb.nhs.wales/about-us/our-health-board/engaging-with-us/engagement-consultation/have-your-say-on-gorseinon-hospitals-future-role/

Information about Community by Design can be found here: https://phw.nhs.wales/knowledge-article/community-by-design/

The engagement will continue until midnight on 26th October.

Today the Mayor and other town councillors attended the official opening of St Catherine's Gorseinon Hall. Adrian Morgan leaves a fantastic legacy of what he and his team have achieved in getting this project to completion. A real asset for the church and the wider community. Well done to all involved
