May's task was a 'path tidy' one along the Dean Wood Path which runs south of Cockpen bordering the Dalhousie Castle land. Foliage was lopped and chopped back making the seemingly well used path easier to navigate. Volunteers were rewarded with some most edible home made chocolate cake provided by Senior Ranger Jo. 😋

Ranger Alan set us to work on a path through Roslin Glen County Park that had become a little unkempt. So steps, boardwalks and side foliage were all given a bit of a 'tidy and trim'. We enjoyed chatting to the many walkers and visitors as they pottered past as well as having lots of good 'in team' chat in rest breaks!

On a beautiful sunny day yesterday 3rd March, we set out from Old Cockpen Kirk heading for the Povert road. It was a loppers and bowsaw task for sure. The thorny shrubbery and ivy now under control making it easier for the folks walking this way.
We met a few cheery folks along the way who appreciated the works.

How green is the Roslin Glen today.
Emma, Jo, Susan M, Gordon and Andrew worked their socks off to dig out some drains as well as dig drainage ditches around the boardwalks. These boardwalks were installed by the wider team a few years ago.
Apologies from those not able to make today’s wet and muddy event and very well done to the team of 5.

Today, we celebrated the life of founder member Ian Brown, who sadly left us on 26th March 2025, with a lovely walk from Pathhead to Glenkinchie Distillery organised by the Midlothian Ranger Service. They, and members of the Paths Group, were also joined by his wife Kathleen, a daughter Lesley and a grandson. Many memories of his unique character were shared between us. He will be forever missed, not least for his photogenic qualities!
