The Spirit Of Goole

The Spirit Of Goole We are a unique charity whose aims are to provide “build a plane” and aviation projects to schools and youth organisation.

The Spirit of Goole is a registered charity founded in 2012 to offer young people (known by us as Sprockets) from underprivileged and deprived background, without exception, the opportunity to learn new skills in engineering and an affordable way to learn to fly an aeroplane. The Spirit Of Goole is a User Led Organisation and is run on a purely voluntary basis. Our Sprockets are from some of the c

ountries most deprived areas, designated as Lower Super Output Areas (LSOA),

These areas suffer some of the worst derivation with high unemployment, high drug, violence and crime, third generation unemployment and extremely low expectations. Our work is helping Sprockets to change their outcomes in life, by showing them that people care, we are able to inspire them to raise their ambitions and to set achievable goals in life expectations. Our Engineering projects allow Sprockets to gain valuable skills and experience through real life projects in aerospace engineering. We use Build A Plane projects and aircraft renovations to introduce Sprockets to concepts in design, manufacturing and maintenance of aircraft. Aircraft Ground School is designed to cover the subjects needed to gain a PPL, Subjects covered are Air Law, Meteorology, Aircraft Technical, Principle of Flight, Navigation, Human Factors and Radiotelephony. All of these subjects help the Sprockets to understand better the need for their school academic curriculum by demonstrating a real-world application for maths, geography, and STEM. Our Flight training programme allows Sprockets to gain air experience flights aimed at building on the ground school subjects of air law, meteorology and navigation. In addition to our engineering and flight operations, we offer careers advice and encourage our Sprockets to take on leadership roles within the charity and projects. Where needed we also assist in helping them with social skills and everyday matters and issues that arise. Essentially, The Spirit Of Goole provides a support network far wider than just their family unit, the skills of our volunteers range from not just pilots and engineers but medical professionals, mental health experts, university lecturers and businessmen. We help with job and university applications to bereavement and Child protection. Please like our Page and watch how young people do amazing things..

We are deeply saddened to share the passing of our founder, Jack Milnes.

Jack had a way of making people feel welcome and supported in his life and in the charity, often without ever seeking recognition for it. His tenacity, courage and kindness speak volumes in the people who’s lives he touched, but we think the most important message of Jack’s to share right now is “Aim High, think big, achieve something amazing”.

Our thoughts are with Jack’s family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. We hope that those who are grieving find comfort in the memories they shared and in the knowledge of how much Jack meant to so many.

Rest peacefully, Jack. You will not be forgotten. 🕊️

In Episode 16 of Podcast, Chris Milnes, STEM Project Supervisor and Jump Pilot, talks passionately about flight.

He discusses how he got into aviation and how he has used his enthusiasm to help inspire young people through the Royal Air Force Cadets (RAFAC) and The Spirit Of Goole build a plane community youth project. His story is a classic case of Paying it Forward, mentoring young people and introducing them to the world of flight.
