The Orpheus Centre Charity and specialist college helping young disabled adults take centre stage 🎤🎭💃🏼🎨

Orpheus is an independent specialist college in Surrey that increases the confidence and skills of young disabled adults through the performing arts. We believe that every young disabled person should have the same opportunities as their non-disabled peers. We offer a holistic learning programme, a supported housing scheme and a domiciliary support service.

💸 Students have been trying out money-handling scenarios in their Independence sessions, featuring the beautifully-made prop food courtesy of our Production Design students!

Learning in this way can be a more digestible (no pun intended!) and engaging first step before the students go out into the community to use what they’ve learnt in a real-life situation.

🍃 Our student Activism group recently made their excited return to Leith Hill Place NT where they took part in a music-making workshop, experimenting with different genres of music and continuing on the theme of nature, as well as learning more about the rich musical history of the site.

Did you know? Composers Ralph Vaughan Williams and Hans Zimmer stayed at Leith Hill Place early in their lives and are said to have drawn inspiration from the grounds in their iconic work!

📸 The Creative Art Majors are feeling inspired after their visit to The Horton Epsom to view the Us & Them Exhibit created by our friends from Freewheelers Theatre and Media.

The exhibit is a collection of photo portraits that reflect on what life may have looked like for disabled people 150 years ago, and highlights what has changed or stayed the same in the understanding and support for people with mental health challenges and physical and learning disabilities.

"The photos were interesting. Overall it's a place that deserves respect, it cares about people." - student Bambo.
