Surrey PWRR ACF The Army Cadets is about fun, friendship and adventure In Surrey there are over 550 cadets enjoying action, adventure training, fun and friendship.

The ACF is a national voluntary youth organisation, sponsored by the Army and providing challenging military, adventurous and community activities. We welcome boys and girls from the age of 12 of all abilities and backgrounds, and through a broad range of exciting, challenging, educational and adventurous activities, help them develop physically, mentally and socially. Combining military and community activities gives cadets a unique blend of personal development opportunities, all designed to promote fun and friendship while also helping them prepare for success in their chosen path in life.

🌟 Volunteer Celebration Wednesday!
As part of National Cadets Week, today is all about putting our incredible Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAVs) front and centre!

A massive THANK YOU to the amazing instructors here at Surrey ACF. Every one of our CFAVs gives up their evenings, weekends, and holidays around their jobs and busy family lives to help young people build confidence, learn new skills, and make friends for life.

From weekly parade nights and first aid training to field exercises and Annual Camp, none of it happens without them. 💚

To every Surrey ACF instructor: thank you for your time, energy, and commitment. You make a real difference.

🌟 Volunteer Celebration Wednesday!

As part of National Cadets Week, we are putting our incredible Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAVs) front and centre!

Huge congratulations to Lt Muller on their promotion! 🎉Reflecting on the journey, Lt Muller shared:
“The ACF has given me many valuable life skills, such as teamwork, communication and leadership, which I have been able to use both within the cadet environment and in my day-to-day life.”

We couldn't do any of this without our dedicated volunteers who give their time to inspire the next generation. Thank you for everything you do! 👏

🎖️ Honouring a Hometown Hero!

As part of National Cadets Week, we're looking back at how our Dorking and Leatherhead Detachment cadets honoured true local history by attending the unveiling of a blue plaque for WWI Victoria Cross recipient Lance Corporal Charles Graham Robertson VC, MM.

Robertson showed incredible bravery near Ypres in 1918 - severely wounded and almost entirely cut off, he singlehandedly held his post, firing his Lewis gun until he managed to crawl back to safety. A true local hero known for his unmatched modesty and grit.

Standing alongside dignitaries, veterans, and the community, our cadets were proud to pay their respects and ensure his legacy lives on.

In the words of Cadet Corporal Betsy Leary: "It felt good to represent us as cadets and to show our respect."

For today's National Cadets Week focus, we’re highlighting how our cadets connect with and learn from our local emergency services!

Cadets from our Dorking and Leatherhead Detachment experienced an unforgettable night at Leatherhead Fire Station, diving straight into community engagement. The visit kicked off with blue lights flashing as two engines rushed out to an incident—including the station’s massive 45-metre high aerial platform.

Once they returned, cadets got hands-on with high-tech rescue gear and even took a ride up into the night sky on the aerial platform itself! ✨

A huge thank you to Surrey Fire and Rescue Service Station Commander (and our very own detachment Sergeant!) Paul Bowyer for showing our cadets the risks and realities faced by local firefighters, and sparking that passion for community service.

In the words of Acting Lance Corporal Dylan Monkman stepping back onto solid ground: "That was, like, the most amazing experience I’ve ever had." 🚀

Starting today, we're celebrating the very first National Cadets Week - a massive nationwide celebration of young people, communities, and the incredible cadet movement! Here is a sneak peek of what we've got lined up this week:
🔹 Monday: Launch Day - kicking things off and sharing our action plan.
🔹 Tuesday: Cadets in the Community - getting out and making a difference locally.
🔹 Wednesday: Volunteer Celebration - putting our amazing CFAVs front and centre.
🔹 Thursday: Cadets Save Lives - putting practical First Aid skills into action.

🏔️ EXPEDITION COMPLETE! 🎒✨

What an unforgettable weekend for Surrey (PWRR) ACF & Burma Company!

A couple of weekends back, we had 58 cadets and 10 CFAVs out on the ground tackling their DofE expedition. The weather played ball, the miles racked up, and teamwork was at an all-time high! 💪

From cracking jokes on the trail to pushing through the final stretch, this group brought incredible energy and made memories that’ll last a lifetime. Huge success all round! 🏕️🔥

A massive well done to every single cadet who took part—be proud of what you've achieved.

On Day 1 of annual camp back in August, the Commandant announced the appointment of a new RSM, with WO1 Chessman taking over as the senior Warrant Officer for Surrey ACF, taking over from WO1 Burton who moves into a new role as the Assistant County Training Officer.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to WO1 Burton for his service and commitment throughout his tenure as RSM. HIS leadership, professionalism and dedication have helped shape the standards, culture and success of Surrey ACF, leaving a lasting legacy for Cadets and Adult Volunteers alike.

As Regimental Sergeant Major, WO1 Chessman becomes the County's senior non-commissioned adult volunteer and principal adviser to the Commandant and County Headquarters on all matters relating to standards, discipline, dress, drill and military ethos. She will provide leadership and mentorship to the County's Warrant Officers and Senior NCOs, champion the development of Adult Volunteers and senior cadets, and play a key role in ensuring Surrey ACF continues to deliver a safe, challenging and inspiring cadet experience founded on the highest standards.

We congratulate WO1 Chessman on her appointment and wish her every success as she takes on this mantle. We look forward to the experience, leadership and commitment she will bring as Surrey ACF continues to develop the next generation of young people.
