One year ago*, Roam & Wonder Foundation CIC officially launched as a social enterprise.
But really, we’ve been leading free community walks for three years now!
The Foundation grew alongside our luxury retreats, from seeing just how much can happen when you bring people together, get outside, and give them the time and space to walk, talk and connect.
Our .retreats are something we’re incredibly proud of, but we know they’re not accessible to everyone.
We don’t believe that should mean missing out on the things that make being outside so good for us.
Nature should be for everyone. So should walking, and community too.
So the Foundation was created to make that possible - keeping our community walks completely free, supported by grants, sponsorships, donations and the amazing people and businesses who believe in what we’re doing.
And what a first year it’s been:
🥾 200+ miles walked together since CIC status last year
🌍 637 people joined us on walks
👣 Nearly 800 miles walked since our walks began
🗺️ Routes from gentle 2-mile strolls to challenging 12-mile hikes
🆓 Every walk, always free and open to everyone
But the miles and numbers aren’t the bit that matters most.
It’s the conversations - the people who arrived not knowing anyone and left with new friends. It’s the first-time group walkers. The regulars who keep turning up, rain or shine. The stories shared on muddy paths. The pints in the b**r garden afterwards. The people who simply needed to get out of the house that day.
That’s what we wanted to create.
And you’ve all made it so much more than we imagined.
So thank you to everyone who’s walked with us, told a friend, donated, supported, sponsored, encouraged us, or taken even one step with us.
Here’s to year one - and many, many more miles together. 🥾🌿
