🌡️ ⚠️ RED WEATHER WARNING ⚠️ 🥵

Due to the Met Office Red Weather Warning in place for Gloucestershire, we will not be running our outdoor play sessions on Wednesday and Thursday.

A Red Warning indicates severe weather with a high likelihood of disruption and risk to safety, and guidance is to avoid travelling unless absolutely necessary.

While we know how important play is, the safety of children, families, staff and volunteers comes first. We look forward to welcoming everyone back once conditions improve.

Thank you for your support and understanding. Stay sun safe, and stay hydrated.

The signs of a hot and then a wet session.

Dry outlines of bikes, left on the path during a (much needed) rain shower. A happy accident which left its mark for all to enjoy.

Next time it is scheduled to rain on a hot day we wonder what other items would leave interesting shapes on a path 🤔

We were joined by a colourful insect friend on Wednesday 🦋

Our players enjoyed chopping up fruit salads for snack and chose to start emptying the sand pit ready for a fresh refill - on the proviso that we transform it into a pool next week 💦

On Sunday our friends at Sewa Day Cheltenham organised a ‘game-a-thon’ event specifically to raise funds for Play Gloucestershire 🩵

We were invited to join the fun playing badminton, table tennis and learning the classic Indian board game Carrom, as well as sharing delicious homemade food.

We are once again blown away by their generosity in choosing to fundraise for us, so far they have raised over £500 🤩

If you would like to add a donation please follow the link to their fundraising page:

No phones, no apps — just real-life social networks in action at Kingsway on Monday.

From pre-schoolers to secondary school students, children and their grown-ups came together for a community play session packed with creative play (including some special Father’s Day cards), giant maths, slime, sport, and so much more.

Thanks to One Gloucestershire Health & Wellbeing Partnership for investing in play and in real-life friendships and memories.

We loved playing with our newly donated puppets during Super Saturday.

Loads of role playing adventures and the gang even had a sleepover in the Play Shack

🌟 PLAY SANCTUARY GLOW UP 🌟

The Play Sanctuary just got even better — and we couldn’t be more excited to share it!

Thanks to a generous grant from The Julia Rausing Trust and support from Active Impact, we’ve installed access ramps, a handrail, wider steps and a brand new rubber mulch surface, making the space more inclusive and welcoming than ever.

Huge thanks to our trustee Kay for the design, and to Will and the brilliant team at Greenfields Ltd who worked in some seriously scorching conditions over half term to get it finished in time.

At Play Gloucestershire, we believe every child deserves access to great play spaces and we can’t wait to welcome more children and young people through the gates. 🩵

🩵👩‍🎓WORK EXPERIENCE WEEK 👩‍🎓🩵

Thank you to Tuliza who chose us as people that could support her in her week of work experience.

Giving Tuliza a peek behind the curtain to see what is needed to make play happen, she has had a week of play prep, paperwork, play in school and community settings, tidying kit, meetings etc

We have known Tuliza since she was 6 years old, she became a Young Volunteer at 10 and has learnt what it takes to be a playworker alongside our Play Rangers. One Ranger saying
“She was amazing in school! I had to keep reminding myself that she was on work experience!”

The future of playwork is safe with incredible young people, like Tuliza, who bring their own lived experience of our play offer to their practice. We’re proud that they choose our sessions to come along to and help out - feeling good while doing good!

We can’t wait to see what the future holds for Tuliza and other amazing young people we have in Team PG.
She sent us a lovely thank you email, which highlights when you work at the speed of trust and offer young people a chance to show their strengths great relationships form and brilliant things can and will happen.

Our Wednesday players certainly embraced the elements during their session ☔️

From paddling in the sandpit to chasing each other in the torrential downpours, accompanied by shrieks of joy and laughter 🏃‍♂️🏃🏾 💦

🎉 Celebrating International Day of Play! 🎉

Today we joined the global call to action for the International Day of Play – a day that shines a spotlight on every child’s right to play and the vital role it has in helping children grow, learn and thrive. 🌍✨

Play isn’t just fun (although it definitely is!) – it’s essential for children’s development. Through play, children build confidence, creativity and friendships, while developing the emotional, social and problem-solving skills they need for life. 🧠🩵

To mark the day, our amazing Play Rangers teamed up with Family Connectors from Gloucester and Forest of Dean Children and Family Centres to bring some extra joy to lunchtime at:

🏫 Bishops Cleeve Primary Academy
🏫 Harewood Junior School
🏫 St James’ C of E Junior School

Together, we added an extra 31 minutes of play, championing Article 31 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child – because every child has the right to rest, relax and play. 🙌

This year’s theme,“Protect Play, Protect Childhood,” is a powerful reminder that play should be valued everywhere – not just in schools, but in our communities, homes and public spaces too.

And what did play look like today? A whole lot of fun! 🎨🎲
From chalk art and story dice to Playpod loose parts and lively games of tag, it’s safe to say smiles (and laughter!) were everywhere.

Thanks to the schools for letting us join them to celebrate International Day of Play 🤩
