This week, we’re proud to celebrate and say a huge thank you to the incredible volunteers who are the backbone of Gloucestershire Nightstop!

Our volunteers provide so much more than just accommodation- from offering safe places to stay, to transport and support to the team, they play a vital role in helping us grow and strengthen the services we provide to young people facing homelessness across our county.

Nightstop is truly a community response to a community issue. Thanks to our volunteers, we’re able to offer safe, supportive beds on a night-by-night basis, giving young people the breathing space they need to tackle their housing crisis, alongside guidance from our youth support team to build a more stable future.

To every one of our volunteers: thank you for your compassion, your time, and your unwavering support. You are making a real difference.

An interesting report recently released by the GCC highlights the significant impact housing has on health outcomes. It reflects many of the themes we continue to see through our work supporting young people experiencing homelessness.

However, the report doesn't address an important gap — the often unique challenges young people face around affordability, overcrowding, and hidden homelessness. Young people remain one of the most represented groups experiencing insecure housing, yet their experiences can too often go unseen.

Through Live.Work.Grow, we are working to create real stability for young people entering the workforce by providing genuinely affordable housing linked to income. Secure housing is more than a roof over someone’s head — it is the foundation for health, wellbeing, opportunity, and long-term independence.

The report,Ā Home is where our health is: Strengthening health through housing in Gloucestershire, is the Director of Public Health’s annual report for 2025/26. It looks at how homes and neighbourhoods affect physical and mental health,Ā from cold and damp homes, to overcrowding, affordability and...

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our Live.Work.Grow event in Gloucestershire
It was an inspiring day filled with powerful stories from people with lived experience, alongside valuable insights from Jean Templeton from St Basils on the impact of Live and Work schemes in Birmingham—sharing both the successes and the challenges (and how they were overcome).
We saw meaningful conversations unfold across sectors, with a shared commitment to creating change. Attendees made encouraging pledges to collaborate and help bring a Live and Work scheme to Gloucestershire—supporting young people at risk of homelessness to build stable, independent futures.
Special thanks to The Friendship CafĆ© for hosting us (and for the incredible homemade cakes šŸ°), all our partners who contributed to the discussions, and the Gloucestershire Nightstop team for making the event happen.
Some of the pledges made include:
šŸ”¹ Exploring funding opportunities through Homes England/MHCLG
šŸ”¹ Greater flexibility in housing allocations
šŸ”¹ Sharing expertise from existing Live and Work schemes
šŸ”¹ Bringing partners together to drive the initiative forward
šŸ”¹ Identifying suitable existing assets
This is just the beginning—excited to see where this collaboration leads

We (as part of our newly funded partnership) are hosting our first event next week to highlight the need for a Live and Work scheme in Gloucestershire.

We have the incredible pleasure of inviting Jean Templeton, the CEO at St Basils Charity as our keynote speaker at the event. Jean has had incredible success delivering a Live and Work model in Birmingham over the last 10 years. She is making a special trip to Gloucestershire to support our cause, discuss the key protective factors of homes and jobs, and answer questions. We are excited to be at The Friendship Cafe in Gloucester, who are doing the fantastic job of hosting us all.

We will also hear real life stories from people that have experienced homelessness in Gloucestershire and have the opportunity to discuss from fellow practitioners in the sector about what needs to happen in order to make Live and Work a reality for young people in the county. Huge thanks to Lloyds Bank Foundation for England & Wales, Without their funding, this would not be possible.

Listen in to tomorrow at 8am to hear Andy talk all about the event!
