7 weeks ago Beryl a tiny Chihuahua was spooked by another dog while out on a walk, she managed to reverse out of her harness and make a run for it. For a couple of weeks Dean and Kate of CCA Thermal Drone Services and Animal Rescue and her family searched for her, the residents of Coopers Edge reported sightings and tried to secure her, we went out with the trap one night but she vanished. Chihuahuas may be small but they are little ninjas and know how to hide. Volunteers from Midshires & Welsh Borders Lost Dog Tracking Network came out and managed to pick up her scent, she had moved to an area where a culvert runs under the M5 and was also tracked towards Upton St Leonard’s, so she’d found herself the perfect hiding place, sometimes putting in a brief appearance but otherwise keeping out of sight with the foxes and squirrels. On Wednesday evening someone spotted her in an area that was slightly more accessible to us mere humans, Dean went over to setup cameras and as he was leaving little Beryl showed herself, only briefly, but enough for us to know this was probably our best chance to trap her. Last night we went to set the trap, Beryl wandered by but ran when she saw us. She kept Damon entertained overnight as he watched her sniffing around the trap from our vehicle. I took over the morning shift, cooked up a smelly breakfast for her and within the hour her tummy got the better of her and she triggered the trap 😁 Her capture was a huge team effort for such a little dog, but shows us that with calm and patient planning we caught her in the end. She is now reunited with her very relieved family and will no doubt need a few weeks to sleep her adventure off. Good luck Beryl we love you ❤️
