Gloucester Civic Trust

Gloucester Civic Trust With the active support of its members provides a varied programme of tours and activities to bring alive the history of Gloucester for everyone.

Gloucester Civic Trust was established in 1972
We actively encourage the appreciation and conservation of Gloucester’s heritage and are a major force in the promotion of city tourism. We aim to ensure that regeneration programmes respect and complement Gloucester’s diverse past. We are an independent charity run by volunteers. Our income comes from subscriptions, donations and guided tours. We wor

k closely with local residents’ groups and businesses to encourage vibrant communities. Our projects help to improve the quality of life of local people, as well as educating both residents and visitors about our city’s rich culture and history. We want Gloucester to be a pleasant place to visit, and a safe and clean city for all those who live and work here. Our work is rewarding, interesting and exciting. Anyone can join Gloucester Civic Trust and our members indeed come from all walks of life. They are encouraged to involve themselves in local issues and projects and to make a difference. We have various committees which play their part in delivering our heritage programmes.

A new self-guided walking trail of Gloucester is launching this Saturday at St. Michael's Tower on the Cross! Come along between 10am-2pm to collect your free map and discover fascinating heritage sites you've passed but never noticed.

From Roman roots to medieval merchants, from dockside industry to the communities that shape it today, Gloucester's stories are written into the streets, buildings and spaces all around you.

Local organisations including Gloucester Civic Trust have come together to create four carefully designed routes to help you uncover the city at your own pace, one story at a time. Civic Trust volunteers will be on hand throughout the day to help you choose a route, share local insights and get you started.

After the launch, the free map will be available from venues across the city. So pick up a map, step outside and start exploring!

We're delighted to say that the restoration work on The Folk of Gloucester's Pin Factory Annexe is now complete! 🥳 DA Cook builders did a fantastic job and of course it wouldn't have been possible without Historic England's Heritage at Risk Captial Fund.

We're so glad that a part of Gloucester's pinmaking history has been preserved for future generations, showing what can be achieved when several heritage organisations work together.

If you want to see the results for yourself, please come along to our grand reopening on Thursday the 28th of May! From 1pm onwards, our volunteer guides will be on hand to show you around The Folk and talk about Gloucester's pinmaking history.

You can read more about the restoration project at: https://www.gloucestercivictrust.org/before-and-after-historic-pin-factory-building-gets-smart-new-makeover/

Are you and your team looking for a team away day with a relaxing and meaningful purpose? The Folk of Gloucester is ready to welcome you!

The Folk of Gloucester is a historic Tudor building located at 99-103 Westgate Street. Come and learn about who has lived in the building over the last 500 years with a tour from one of our specialist tour guides. Hold your team meeting in one of the oldest rooms in the city. Take part in a mindful creative activity with our resident textile artist, Ally Goff, and enjoy freshly prepared homemade food in our 'secret garden' café.

The Folk of Gloucester is run by Gloucester Civic Trust, a registered charity. We are the current custodians of the buildings and responsible for their upkeep. Our aim is to restore and conserve these magical buildings so that they are still standing in another 500 years.

Your booking payment goes straight back into their upkeep; thus you are directly helping with the survival of these iconic buildings.

Prices start at £365 - contact [email protected] for a conversation about your day and how we can make sure your team leave feeling refreshed!
