Young Gloucestershire

Young Gloucestershire We are a countywide charity supporting young people (aged 11-25) who face challenges in their lives.

We support young people who are facing some very difficult times; whether it be a disruptive home life, caring for a family member or coping with a mental health issue. Young people turn to us for help and we offer them practical ways to find confidence and develop the skills they need to get on track and to move into a job, education or training.

To celebrate clean air day today, we are throwing back to our recent blog written by our Youth Worker Ellie about the impact of climate change anxiety on our young people. Check it out here. Did you know that if you search climate change on our website you can see other things we've done to help combat climate change. For example, did you know that we joined forces with the Stroud Valleys Project to help create a woodland with more than 1000 trees back in 2022.

As Data Manager at Young Gloucestershire, I help ensure that the information we collect is meaningful, accurate, and supports the best possible outcomes for young people. I enjoy turning data into insight, helping teams understand their impact, and improving the systems that support our services.
Alongside my role, I am proud to be an EDI Champion. Growing up mixed-race in a single-parent household, losing my mother at 16, and fighting for custody of my younger sister while facing food insecurity and systemic barriers shaped who I am. My sister, who is part of the LGBTQ+ community, and my extended family in Gloucester have all experienced exclusion and racial prejudice and those realities have fuelled my drive to create meaningful change. As an EDI Champion, I will be committed to building spaces where no one feels small, silenced, or β€œless than” because of who they are or where they come from. I want to help create environments where every story matters, and every voice is valued.

Join us to shout out our amazing Data Manager and ED&I Champion Carmel, as we celebrate 2 years at YG πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

Having undertaking an externally verified evaluation of our Flex project, we held an event to share the findings and provide the opportunity for discussion and questions. Watch this space for future opportunities to find out more about our Flex model of practice.

This week is unique to YG, and offers the young people the chance to reflect and celebrate how far they have come. Not only can they use the time to discuss next steps, but they can use the time to work on anything they feel they need more support on such as interview or CV support and complete any coursework. But, this week also offers the chance to say goodbye, over 13 weeks, bonds have been made, but now they are prepared to face what comes next.

Continuing our celebration of Refugee Week, Why not head down to the belonging picnic on Saturday at Llanthony Secunda Priory! Celebrating togetherness and belonging, with our own Youth Worker Issis among the performers. Our differences are what makes us a community, so learn from the different cultures present, and have a great time 😁
