Young Gloucestershire We are a countywide charity supporting young people (aged 11-25) who face challenges in their lives.

We support young people who are facing some very difficult times; whether it be a disruptive home life, caring for a family member or coping with a mental health issue. Young people turn to us for help and we offer them practical ways to find confidence and develop the skills they need to get on track and to move into a job, education or training.

Today is National Black Cat Day! Black Cats often have a lower adoption rate than other cats, mostly due to the negative superstitions surrounding them. With Halloween is around the corner, the Cat Protection Charity are advising to be aware of the raised risk to Black Cats, as they can be the target of cruelty.

🎃 Happy National Pumpkin Day! 🎃

To celebrate we held a little competition to see what creative skills our YPs, Staff and families had as we took on decorating pumpkins! Presenting our Winner and Runners up!

3rd Place - Fintan, whose spooky pumpkin, was a challenge to push himself to focus until it was finished! We love the fear in it's eyes!

2nd Place - Kiz, using their passion for musical theatre to transform their pumpkin into the calling card for a powerful demon.

1st Place - Leon and Ash highlighting the secrets inside the pumpkin, with their harvest season artwork.

This week for Black History Month, we’re celebrating some of the people who have challenged barriers, opened doors and helped shape a more inclusive society.

From Dame Floella Benjamin’s advocacy for children and young people, to Dr Harold Moody’s pioneering work for racial equality and Malorie Blackman, who's children's stories showcase inclusion and diversity for young people, their legacies remind us of the power of using our voices, challenging inequality and creating opportunities for others.

At Young Gloucestershire, we believe every young person deserves to feel valued, have their voice heard and have the opportunity to shape their future. By recognising the past and celebrating progress, we can continue working towards a future where everyone has the chance to thrive.

Not, 'they suffer from', 'are afflicted by', their stammer is 'terrible' or 'debilitating', simply 'They Stammer'. Language can be derogatory even if you don't mean to. Today is International Stammering Awareness Day, and we are reminding people to treat people with understanding and empathy, just because someone needs a bit of extra time doesn't mean they have nothing to say, 'they stammer'.
Around 8% of children start to stammer at some point, around 1% will continue to stammer into adulthood. Stamma is hosting a variety events for International Stammering Awareness Day 2026, head to their website stamma.org to check it out!
