Gloucester Sea Cadet & Royal Marine Cadet Corps The charity purpose of the Sea Cadet Corps is to promote the development of young people in achieving their physical, intellectual and social potential.

Sea Cadets is different from school. There's a lot of learning. But it's done through activities – on the water, on land and in the unit – and our volunteers leading by example. It's also different from home, a break from screens and being cooped up inside. The platform we offer youngsters is built on the foundations of a Royal Navy ethos. Their customs and traditions inspire our work and focus our commitment to supporting teenagers today.

🏉 What a fantastic evening for our Royal Marines Cadets! 🇬🇧

On Wednesday, our cadets were proud to support the rugby match between BUCS and the Royal Navy at Hartpury University and Hartpury College, all in aid of the brilliant charity Rugby for Heroes.

Our cadets had the honour of forming the Guard of Honour as both teams ran onto the pitch – a proud moment for everyone involved. They also had the opportunity to meet Vice Admiral Stephen Moorhouse, Commander of the Fleet.

The cadets thoroughly enjoyed the match – it was a fantastic evening and a brilliant opportunity to support both our local community and the wider Armed Forces family.

Huge congratulations to our newest promoted cadets! 👏

A massive well done to Cadet Corporal Huckson and Cadet Lance Corporal Moody, who both successfully passed their promotion boards this weekend. They performed brilliantly and the hard work they have put in really showed. We are incredibly proud of them both.

With everything currently happening around the closure of our unit building, it is more important than ever to remember why we do what we do – our cadets. Even without a permanent home right now, our cadets continue to work hard, develop their skills and achieve fantastic things.

Congratulations again Cdt Cpl Huckson and Cdt LCpl Moody – very well deserved! 🎉🥳

Are you ready for your next leadership challenge?

Gloucester Unit is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic volunteer to step into the role of First Lieutenant and help shape the future of our amazing cadets.

With 36 cadets (including RMCD) and a passionate instructional team, this is a fantastic opportunity to lead, mentor and inspire the next generation while developing your own leadership experience.

💡 We’re looking for someone who has:
✔ Strong leadership skills
✔ Great organisational ability
✔ Confidence communicating with people at all levels
✔ The ability to delegate and manage effectively
✔ A passion for supporting and developing cadets and volunteers

⚓ The unit is currently in temporary accommodation while awaiting a move to their new home, making this an exciting time to help rebuild and grow a strong unit.

Last night we were in our new temporary home in Sea Cadets - Cheltenham. A huge thank you to them for allowing us to parade there until something more permanent is found.

We have to say that as horrible as the past few weeks have been with the closure of our unit, the outpouring of support and offers of help have been amazing. The Sea Cadet family has truly pulled together to support us and we couldn’t be more grateful.

Our Royal Marines Cadet Detachment Commander Sgt (SCC) Julia Nigh was awarded an Area Officer Certificate of Appreciation at the Drill and Piping competition.

All our adult staff are amazing. The work they put in to support the youth of Gloucester is unbelievable. We appreciate every single one of you - you’re the best!

Massive well done to our unarmed drill squads who travelled to HMS Raleigh at the weekend for the South West Area Sea Cadets drill and piping competition.

Our teams put in hours of work and the places they came did not show the dedication and effort that was put in over the weeks before hand. Our RMCD detachment represented 2 Troop, with most of the team not having done drill before September and one member only joining the team in January!

Despite all that we came:
Sea Cadet Unarmed: 15th
Sea Cadet Guard Commander: 9th
RMC: 3rd
RMC Guard Commander: 2nd

Huge well done teams - we are proud of all of you!!!

This weekend meant more drill competition preparation, with both teams putting in the effort and working incredibly hard to sharpen their routines and teamwork.

All that focus and determination definitely earned a reward, so we made sure there were plenty of cakes to keep everyone fuelled and smiling.

Hard work and sweet treats are the perfect combination.

Last weekend was a busy and productive one for our cadets as they prepared for upcoming drill competitions and promotion boards.

Saturday was dedicated to sharpening drill skills, with plenty of focus and determination on display. On Sunday, the emphasis shifted to fieldcraft, including practical map and compass training to build confidence and navigation skills in the field.

Well done to all our cadets for their fantastic effort, commitment, and teamwork. We are proud of you all.

Remembrance Day 2025. Fantastic turn out from our cadets and staff to show our respects to all those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom in all conflicts. They all attended the Cenotaph Service and marched through Gloucester City looking smart, with pride and humility. As their CO I was proud to be leading such a brilliant group of young people and adult volunteers.
