ποΈ A message from His Majesty The King for the first ever National Cadets Week! β
To mark the inaugural National Cadets Week, His Majesty The King has sent his "warmest congratulations and best wishes to all cadets, adult volunteers, families and supporters of cadet services across the United Kingdom."
Here at Gloucester Sea Cadets and Royal Marines Cadets, those words mean a great deal, because this is exactly what we do, week in, week out, right here in our city.
β For our young people (aged 10 to 18)
The King speaks of helping young people "discover their strengths, broaden their horizons and develop the confidence to face life's challenges." For our cadets, that looks like:
π£ Getting out on the water: sailing, rowing, kayaking and powerboating
ποΈ Fieldcraft, adventure training and expeditions
π― Leadership, teamwork, drill and first aid
π Nationally recognised qualifications that stand out on any CV or college application
π€ Friendships that last a lifetime, and a place where every young person belongs
Cadets arrive shy and unsure. They leave as confident, capable young adults ready to take on the world.
π For our volunteers
His Majesty paid special tribute to the adult volunteers who "so generously give their time, energy and expertise", and he was clear that more are needed.
None of what we do happens without our Cadet Force Adult Volunteers. And here's what people don't tell you: you get back just as much as you give.
β
Free training and qualifications, from boating to first aid to leadership
β
New skills that boost your own career and confidence
β
A team that becomes a second family
β
The pride of watching a young person achieve something they never thought they could
You don't need a military background. You don't need to know one end of a boat from the other. You just need some time, enthusiasm and a willingness to make a difference.
Could that be you? Whether you're 10 and ready for adventure, or an adult ready to give something back, there's a place for you at Gloucester.
