Gloucestershire Farming Friends

Gloucestershire Farming Friends The Charity was set up by a local Farmer, Malcolm Whitaker in 1991.

Gloucestershire Farming Friend is a voluntary group in Gloucestershire to provide support to farmers - please message or phone if you or someone you know needs help with a farming related issue. Gloucestershire Farming Friends is a charity providing confidential help, emotional or practical advice, help with paperwork or just a shoulder to lean on for rural people in the County. The charity is ru

n by volunteers, all of whom come from rural backgrounds, each with a different area of knowledge and expertise allowing them to advise on a host of different matters. "I like to think that Gloucestershire Farming Friends are doing the job that neighbours used to do in days gone by"

Although farming employs just 1% of the UK workforce, it accounts for around 20% of workplace deaths, with an average of 31 people losing their lives on British farms each year.

RABI's new FarmersAid app, launching at Royal Cornwall Show, aims to give farmers life-saving guidance in the crucial minutes before emergency services arrive.

Could this become an essential tool on every farm?

A very innovative trial to help with the stresses of farming looking for persons in agriculture to trial:

I'm Josh Hall, Senior Client Operations Manager for Tend VR, who have partnered with The DPJ Foundation and We Are Farming Minds on a new initiative designed to help people working in agriculture and related sectors to better manage stress, stay focused, and maintain a healthy mindset throughout the farming year.

Our innovative virtual reality (VR) programme delivers an 8-part wellbeing course inspired by Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), and a series of shorter standalone relaxation sessions. The course has been newly adapted for the farming community with agricultural imagery, practical relaxation tools, and interactive activities. Feedback from early participants has been really positive, with many finding it helpful for switching off and staying present.

We’re now looking for up to 50 members of the agricultural community to take part in the study. Each participant will receive a VR headset to use at home, at times that suit them. The companion mobile app also includes shorter “snackable” wellbeing tools for use on the go.

All data is handled confidentially and in line with GDPR. Participants must be 18 years or older and meet the basic eligibility criteria (assessed via a short screening process).

If you think your team, peers or further network might be interested, we’d be grateful if you could share this opportunity. Anyone can submit an Expression of Interest form here:
